En Suite room overlooking the lake, super view and very clean. Tasty food and helpful staff. Easy to get to the Lake boat service at the Jetty and an easy walk into Ambleside town, bus stops also close by.

Location, location, location. My wife and I are both outdoor swimmers and have stayed at this hostel on numerous occasions. It virtually has an on-suite lake. Windermere is right on the doorstep, the hostel even has its own jetty. We stayed in a private 3 bed room with a double bed and single above. It was comfortable and clean. There were plenty of shower and wc facilities close to the room. This is a large YHA hostel with plenty of facilities, social areas, self catering kitchens, bar, food, dry room etc. The bar is open all day with food available and reception manned 24/7. There is key fob access to most areas which adds security. The location is ideal for exploring Ambleside and the pier for cruises is just by the hostel. It is also good for walking. We had bad weather most of the time that we were there so kept to low level walks but I would recommend a walk down past Rydal Water to Grasmere. Lovely, boat free swimming there as well.

Youth Hostel Ambleside is a very nice place to stay when you would like to discover the lake District. Its location is excellent, at the lake side. It has a good restaurant, nice and helpful personel and is lying very nearby the pittoresque small village of Ambleside. Kitchen and cooking-facilities are of a high level. Good opportunities to meet other travellers. The atmosphere is pleasant and the sight marvellous.

Ambleside YHA - lively, welcoming hostel. Stayed at YHA right next to the lake - beautiful views and only a short walk from pubs and restaurants. Great location and excellent value. We had an evening meal at the YHA and are by the lake. The good was delicious, hot and arrived promptly.

    • Wonderful location

Just back from an excellent overnight stay here with my husband. I had visited 35 years previously and wow...what changes! En-suite rooms available, no chores to do and a fob so you can arrive back late! Very different to YHA years ago! Of course the location is still absolutely stunning! I was up and by the lake at 7am and was rewarded with breathtaking mists over the water! Our room was basic but clean and had a sink with mirror, cupboards and 2 toilets and showers just outside the room ...which again were very clean. We slept well in a double bed (with an upper single bunk!) A double duvet and pillows were provided. We took our own towels but you can hire them if needed. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed sitting outside with a latte from the bar (which also serves food) and was also able to get a drink later in the evening too. We took advantage of breakfast and found it excellent. A very good range including both continental and cooked with a vegetarian option. It really set us up for the day. Parking is limited but we were lucky. I believe there is also parking nearby if the hostel was full . I would highly recommend you visit this. Good for individuals, couples and families too
