    • Simply superb

The hotel exceeded our expectations and we were sad to leave! The breakfast every morning (WHICH IS INCLUDED) was delightful next to the infinity pool and the staff was friendly. The room itself was also delightful, and we enjoyed simply opening up our door/window and listening to the sound of the ocean. A wonderful experience!

The White Exclusive Suites & Villas are absolutely stunningly located and the decor beautiful inside too. The rooms were spacious and had a little kitchenette in them. The wow factor is endless. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and even left a full breakfast out for us when we departed at 5:30am! The staff were very good in making exertion and dinner arrangements. We tend to agree with other reviewers that the dinner was hugely expensive for what it was - we had a meal at a two Michelin starred restaurant in Porto which was far better value. We thought that charging 2 for a coffee pod and 1 for a tea bag for use in the room was unnecessary given the cost of accommodation- also the first time I have ever come across this penny pinching which given the cost to the hotel against goodwill lost doesnt seem worth it. However, guests are free to purchase coffee and tea at the supermarkets. The breakfasts are plentiful and tasty but get repetitive when you stay a number of days as they are the same every day. It would be nice if the breakfast was rotated every second day perhaps. Overall, I cant imagine a more beautiful and friendly place to stay in Sao Miguel and would return.

    • Delightful stay!

We had a wonderful time at the White! We stayed in one of the Junior Suites, and although it's the smaller of the rooms, it's perfectly appointed and well-designed to fit everything you need with room to spare. And the door opens onto the deck that looks out to the ocean, which was fantastic. The food is incredible - I can't recommend it enough. The chefs are so talented and the plates are inspired by whatever is fresh and local that day. I could've eaten every single meal there! The pool and views are spectacular. Although there isn't beach access from the White, you really don't need it because you won't want to leave the pool and it's gorgeous views. A couple opportunities though: 1. It seems they have services that weren't mentioned to us upon check-in that would've been helpful. For example, another guest was having a massage on the property and we were unaware that could even happen. Or that they have relationships with excursions around the island that they could book for you more easily than us searching on our own. Having known about that ahead of arrival and/or at check-in would have been beneficial and saved us time. 2. We were told for dinner that you could only choose from an 8 or 4 course meal selection (which was AMAZING!), but other guests told us they were able to order 2 courses or a la carte. That was quite a bit confusing because if we had known about that, we would've eaten on property more often. I'd still recommend the property and would stay there again if we went back to Sao Miguel. And Lagoa is a great location on the island!

    • Beautiful Oasis

We stayed for 4 nights and had an extraordinary experience. The staff, the setting, the service - all were perfect. We stayed in a unique suite. The room was large. The air conditioning was great. There was a small kitchenette in the room which we did not use but it was a nice amenity. Clean room. Good housekeeping service. Big bathroom with nice water pressure. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. 10 rooms allowed for intimate and fantastic service from the staff. Brasa, Lus, the chef and Joan were all attentive and very helpful. Beautiful infinity pool overlooking the endless blue ocean. Great outdoor terrace with a fire pit for the evenings and beautiful driftwood decor. Breakfast was one of the best parts of the experience. Delicious, fresh, variety of options with local selections. Highly recommend!

    • Pictures are beautiful; reality is even better!

Amazing place on a little sliver of land. The infinity pool is spectacular - looking over the vast Atlantic Ocean from comfortable lounge chairs! The rooms are very large - we stayed in Ocean Suite 1, which is on the side of the building, but the ocean view from the patio is grand. We enjoyed the privacy of the side room, away from the fire pit and pool area. We had a bedroom with a walkway past the door to access the balcony, then on to a decent living area with tv and couch. The bathroom is spacious, with a rain shower that encourages leisure time! I cannot recommend eating dinner at the restaurant, however. Small portions, very very expensive (definitely the most expensive meal we ate during 2 weeks in Portugal & Sao Miguel), so-so meal. Breakfast is excellent, however. The location isn't great for visiting the rest of the island if you don't have a car. Too far from just about everything, and taxis are your only option. And they're expensive. (12 Euros each way to Sunset Beach, e.g.) We had a private driver take us around island - well worth the expense (Azores Private Tours). Very friendly & helpful staff - made our visit a real pleasure!
