    • Disappointing graduation meal

      Reviewed 06 September 2019

Came here for my graduation meal in July, the reviews were fantastic so we couldnt wait to give it a try. Unfortunately it was clear when we got there that we were in for a long wait. They had a function in one of the rooms and we had to wait a very long time just to have our order taken. From the time we ordered food to when we received it was over an hour. We complained and did get a generous discount as a result. Ive given it three stars as the food was great and the manager was very apologetic. I think we caught it on a bad night. Its just a shame the food took so long and the staff were no where to be found. Had the staff had been more attentive and explained the problem we wouldnt have been so frustrated at how long the food took. Instead we were left for an hour with no explanation.

    • Lovely lunch in beautiful surroundings

Went to this pub for lunch with my family. I liked everything about it. Classy atmosphere without being stuffy, spotlessly clean, pleasant dining area, and some of the best pub food I have tasted. I note there are some less positive reviews, but please note there has been a change of management and I can only assume these do not relate to the current team as they do not appear to be talking about the same place at all.

    • Very nice find

      Reviewed 08 September 2018

We arrived here at 4 pm and where staying for 2 days we walked in and we're pleasantly surprised at how nice it was, the deco is spot on, we were shown to our room number 3 again a very nice room, we ate there that evening, both had 3 courses each and enjoyed every mouthful. Breakfast was again tasty, my only criticism is maybe there should a menu to look at and slightly more to choose from on the juice/cereal table. The staff we met while we were there were friendly and welcoming which makes all the difference. We stayed here as we were off to the races and this was the closest we found to the race course, we enjoyed it that much we are planning another night away there next weekend .

    • More like Faulty Towers

      Reviewed 25 July 2018

We stayed here in early July, the first impression was not good or friendly, I chose this place for the very good reports, unfortunately I think people need to be a bit more truthful we were given a small room in the annex nice looking bathroom, the windows of the room overlooked the car park & it was very very hot in the room, I was worried about leaving the windows open & ask if they had another room, of course they didn't but did say the room in the main building would be available the next morning if we wanted to have a look, unfortunately a nice room above the kitchen with the outlet for the kitchen in front of the room on the roof, so, no this would not be any better. The lady who I presume was in charge told me she had some fans on order but they had not arrived, later in the day she turned up with a fan on a stand which did help We had a meal in the restaurant that night & although service was slow the meal was fine. The next morning was the trail of how does the shower work, whoever thought it would be a good idea to put such complicated showers in a hotel has no idea. Off we went to breakfast to find limited selection on the cereal front okay if you are a child & like Coco Pops but even after asking there was nothing else on offer, this continued for the next two mornings, On the second morning I asked for bacon & egg to be told there was no bacon as the delivery had not arrived, by this time there were only 2 rooms occupied would it have been too much to go and buy some bacon before breakfast started !!!! Our last day we were off the next day we returned to the room to find the fan had disappeared, on asking the very nice young man who was in charge he said he was but had no idea who had taken the fan, after looking for it for a while he tells us it had been taken home by the lady who owned it, fine but a phone call to let us know would have been great, my husband then had to go looking for one to buy as no way could we have slept in that room, unfortunately he could only find a small fan but this nice young man did reimburse us for it & we left it in the room when we left. Of course the so called fan's on order never did show up We had booked a table in the restaurant for that night but the nice young man came & told us there was a problem in the kitchen & the Chef thought he could smell gas & they had called a plumber to investigate, my husband then had to drive again to find us somewhere to eat, I seem to recognise this excuse from a previous report !!! The nice young man was very apologetic and promised us that the lady who I presume is the manager would phone us the next day, of course this never happened what a surprise !!! It seemed to me that although this is a nice place the main building being decorated very nicely, it is really let down by the lack of training for the staff, the waiting staff seemed to have not a lot of idea especially at breakfast & to not have any cereal or bacon at breakfast is just not good. There never seemed to be the same person there who could take responsibility or give an answer for all these failings shame really could be quite good with the right people in charge. Still waiting for this phone call ??????

    • Cashing in Xmas present voucher

      Reviewed 27 June 2018

Having had a meal voucher for Xmas we thought we would visit and use it twoward the cost. We had not been here for a few years and boy what a surprise, the place is brilliant. The service and staff were excellent, and so was the meal. The bar and beer garden is dog friendly, and also boasts a Caravan and Motorhome C L site Well worth a visit. We will be back!!
