    • Beware of fraudulent charges to your credit card

      Booking states that the charge will be made in USD - this is a lie. The hotel charges in MXN - they have a ludicrous conversion rate from USD to MXN and ask you to pay in MXN. This, coupled with the ineptitude of some front-desk staff (some of them may be trainees), was bad enough, but the one that took the cake in my case was that I was "accidentaly" charged more than 250. Below is an extract of the complaint email I sent more than two weeks ago. I have yet to hear from them - my money was eventually refunded. I can see that the "Director General" replies to these reviews. After waiting for nearly three weeks for a response, I hope they at least have the decency to follow up here. "...[details of the fraudulent transaction]...I would like to formally complain for the way my data have been treated by Villahermosas Marriott branch. I stayed in this business from [dates] 2019. I paid all hotel fees on [date] 2019, accepting a misleading booking that stated I would be charged in USD, just to be told that no, the hotels card terminals do not accept USD, so we charge our own (exorbitant) exchange rate and charge in MXN. This means that the details of a card that was used four days prior were stored in such a way that these were ready for retrieval for another payment I never authorised. This is unacceptable behaviour for any business, let alone a supposedly reputable international brand like Marriott. I contacted the local manager, Ms [name] (cc'd), on [date], to enquire about the matter. I am grateful to Ms [surname] for receiving me in her office and promptly following up with your Finance department. She has apologised, and confirmed that the charge was made in error by one of the receptionists and that the hotel is willing to refund the amount charged. I am, however, deeply distressed by the disorganisation displayed by your staff, which shows little regard for me as a customer. While for you this may constitute a simple mistake, it in fact involves deception and, in some countries, would count as fraud...[email continues]...". Positive points: I requested a room "as high up as possible" and was given one on the 9th floor. The cleaning and room service staff were very kind with me during my stay.

      Very Good hotel. Well located and close to the mall and other commercial facilities. The room is big with a good bed. Restaurant has a very nice buffet but you also can order from the menu. Breakfast is fantastic.

      Travelling through Mexico weve stayed at a number of boutique hotels but it was really nice to stay again at the good old Marriott. Everything worked, people were professional, rooms were good and well sized. Breakfast was enjoyed by the whole family.

      This hotel is really well located close to most offices and companies in the city. Staff was friendly but not very responsive to inquiries. When I checked in they couldn't find my reservation and had a hard time finding my rewards numbers even though I did my reservation through Marriott app. Room was great but some furniture needs a renovation as it looks coming out from the 90s. The breakfast is really awesome as plenty of food and dishes are available. I would stay again for business trip.

      I had previously positively reviewed the Hilton in Villahermosa, my preference for it was due to its easy location to the airport as my departure flight used to leave at 7:20 am and it saved me the ultra early wake up had I been in the city. Now that United has cancelled the direct flight to the US I no longer have that issue. So my choice has become the Marriott in Villahermosa. Great location for taking care of business in the city, loads of shopping and eating options as it is attached to the galeras mall and near to a wide selection of restaurants either by easy walk or short cab ride. Rooms are really good but not excellent, staff is solid and friendly. I can safely recommend it.
