We enjoyed our visit yesterday lunchtime very much - great food and good service. Recently renovated, this family favourite of ours has now been elevated to another level - a high end destination worthy of a special trip - by all the work at the pool, nearly completed. We will be back!

We had a lovely time at the pool today and decided to have a hot chocolate and a bakewell slice afterwards. I went to the takeaway window and waited. It didn't take me long to get served as there was no queuw. However I wasn't informed of the long wait. I received my drinks after 25 minutes of standing there with a queue forming. Not once did anyone apologise for the wait they clearly just said to other customers they were overwhelmed. The frustrating part is there seemed to be a lack of management going on with 2 staff members just floating around the till area. The staff member on the coffee machine wasn't getting any help and the orders were piling up. The pool wasn't busy. When my drinks were handed over again there wasn't an apology for the wait. That's all it would have taken. People seemed to be getting confused with the take away window and the place to order for sitting inside. In the end the hot chocolate wasn't great but we did have a lovely bakewell slice!

Being local I thought I would take a visit to the pool to see how work had progressed over the winter. After buying shares last year I have waited for the cafe to reopen and visited on a day they had a drumming show. These are my thoughts I arrived to find half the pool roped off even though it was the end of July, the sun was out and eventually they did open the whole pool up. Im guessing if you wanted to do lengths or swim around the outside of the pool this would have been restricted while sectioned off. I paid and then went down the steps to my left. I found the steps to be muddy on the left hand side and slippery even though it was sunny. On reaching the sun terrace I sat on the bench to soak up the atmosphere. I used the changing cubicles which unfortunately didnt have any doors still. The floors and walls of each one I looked at were dirty with grit, hair, the pull off bits from the wrist bands, cobwebs and rubbish. I then had a swim and could see a lot of grit on the floor of the pool Im guessing from the builders. After sitting in the sun for awhile I felt hot and seeing that they hired out deckchairs I asked if they had any parasols but were told they didnt so I went to the cafe to eat a late lunch. I ate crabmeat and fries, I was disappointed at the thimble size portion of crab. I tried a coffee as I thought it couldnt have been as bad as last year, it was, it tasted burnt and my black coffee resembled an instant. I recognised the manager walking around from the publicity of the pool. She just looked miserable and didnt engage with customers or staff. I really do hope they up their game as it felt like that each area of the pool and cafe was working separately, and even though I know they have recently reopened they seem to be making the same mistakes as last year. They are striving to be more up market with the geothermal pool when its opens in November. First impressions really count, the place needs to be immaculate. I really do think the pool and cafe need to decide who their target market is. It feels as if they are trying to out price the locals (200) a year membership plus the geothermal price on top which is 16 unless you have a TR18 postcode is way out of most people budgets. At the moment it is holiday season but come January and February and the poor weather, only the hardy local swimmers might use it. If they are relying on spa sessions then they need to look around at the competition. You wouldnt expect a spa to be dirty. You want luxury and comfort. Im not sure the manager has the capabilities to train the staff and see it through. So they need to think about the detail, it really isnt a new business at the moment as the pool and a cafe have been on the site for a long time. Get the basics right, make sure everything is spick and span and immaculate, that no one can pick them up on the stupid things that are so avoidable. I really think they need to talk to locals and maybe have a suggestion box. After all its a service and Im not convinced they are offering a good service at the moment. The pools future depends on getting it right. This place could be the gem of Penzance but it has a long way to go yet.

Honestly thought was expensive for swim in cold mirky pool. Changing rooms didn't have doors on them. Disappointed with cafe when attempted to purchase two hot chocolates to warm up waited 25 mins only to receive 2 cold drinks got my money back. Save cash swim in sea.
