As ever this place does not disappoint. The food is always incredible. We have been here a number of times and I have been reluctant to post because I don't want it to become so popular we can't get a table On a serious note the front of house service from Alex and Laura is better than any supposed 'high end' restaurant, and the menu is superbly crafted by Arnaud and Simon and the entire kitchen team. It is an amazing local gem. Thank you again to all of the staff that keep us coming back again, and again!

This is a difficult review to write due to the significant difference between the accommodation and the food. Accommodation first. Our first room had an awful smell in the bathroom with an extremely dirty shower head and as stated, very smelly to the extent that it was totally unacceptable. Credit to the staff; they moved us to a new room with the promise to upgrade us the next night. The second room was ok, but the sink was badly cracked and the hot tap was very loose. On the second night we were upgraded to the family room. Overall the room was fine but the bathroom had very badly cracked tilesover the bath. Overall the accommodation needs some serious maintenance and far more attention to detail. I note the comments about the grubby carpet on the stairs. I agree with that. If I was just scoring the accommodation then it would only get a 2 at best. The food. This was in complete contrast to the accommodation. All very well cooked, tasty and well presented. For example, the pigeon cassoulet was lovely; perfectly cooked pigeon; just pink. Other meals were equally tasty. The breakfast was great. The grapefruit was spiced with vanilla and cinnamon which was very different. The tomatoes,as part of the cooked breakfast, were slow roasted, beautifully sweet. The quality of the service cannot be faulted. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful. It is certainly worth going there for a meal, either eating in the bar or the restaurant. The accommodation unfortunately cannot be recommended unless, and until they do some significant maintenance. It could be lovely with a bit more care. So overall a score of 3 is probably fair.

    • The best food I've had in a long time

I rarely write reviews but I felt I must come on here to share some praise for this place! 6 of us went for Sunday lunch and it was the best food I've had in ages. Everyone else had the roast which they said was absolutely superb, I had the cauliflower curry which was absolutely delicious. We all opted for the salted caramel popcorn pannacotta for pudding and well... mouthwateringly delicious! In fact, I'd say the best pudding I've ever had. This place is in a different league to other local pubs. A must visit.

Visited today with a friend for lunch and requested to sit in the garden but was told we were not allowed to sit outside and would have to eat inside.Beautiful weather but not serving outside for some reason? Ordered a burger which was rare chips were good. Then we were asked when we would be finished as table was needed! Not great.

Stayed a night in this beautiful 17C coaching inn. Our room was very big and well equipped with tea/ coffee making facilities, toiletries, sweets and lots of book to read. No biscuits though. The en-suite bathroom had really a strange sloping floor but it overlooked the lovely courtyard where you can have a drink They have parking as well a big beer garden behind the Main Street We had dinner at the hotel and they have a good menu with pub classics as well as innovative dishes. I had a huge pork chop which was very tender and served with delicious cabbage. My partner had half a roast chicken in a buttery sauce which came with well cooked fries ( skin left on) For desserts we had the apple crumble with a foamy topping which came in a glass ( nothing like a traditional apple crumble ) and gooseberry creme brle Breakfast is quite simple. A small selection of cereal, croissants and fruits. Theres a cooked breakfast selection and we had poached egg on toast with smashed avocado. Unfortunately the toast was overdone and very crispy and they only give you one poached egg. The area has a few attractions including the NT Wycombe Park (5 for the grounds) so this hotel is a good place as a base
