    • Photos on are a sham

The lovely photos are in fact an amalgamation of the several van der valk hotels in Utrecht. We came, paid cash last minute for what should have been a night of luxury. The foyer looked good, although a lot smaller than shown. I got changed to go and enjoy a drink at the bar, expecting some nice architecture as shown. The bar looked like a cheap tacky sports bar with football on tv monitors, which stank of smoke. The staff looked and sounded stoned. When I asked for a glass of wine, they shrugged. The music was disco loud even in the cafe section. I asked the reception if there was anywhere quiet to sit for a drink. The staff- apparently night security- no receptionists available after 10pm and no duty manager- were also stoned, laughed at me and said the only quiet place( rooftop bar shut) so why didnt I go there? I found myself utterly humiliated. The bar manager came through eventually and smirked when I suggested he had a very bad attitude. So far from the luxury night I had hoped for from the pictures I might as well have been in a travel lodge. The room looked the same and the staff at this posh place could take a few lessons in courtesy from there. So be warned. Not what you might expect - four star? And nothing like the photos- theres another van der valk in Utrecht- they show two separate hotel photos as if it were one( they are miles apart) so you get half what you expect. I feel totally cheated.

    • Large, beautiful and clean room

Unfortunately I stayed for one night only. I loved the surprisingly large room. Also the bathroom was large and modern and there was everything youd expect. However, the service in the restaurant was a bit slow and it was hard to get an iPhone charger.

    • We loved our stay in this hotel!

We booked a comfort room with a two person whirlpool in the room. We loved it! spacious bathroom with a separate shower too. bed is large and mattresses very comfortable. Both the room and bathroom are kept very clean. Breakfast buffet is delicious. A lot of variety and choice. Very fresh and mostly local products. We absolutely loved our stay in this hotel and room!

    • Top End Business Hotel

Hotel of choice for the office which is located nearby. Positives: Comfy beds, huge bathrooms, good value bar food, great breakfast selection & quality meals. Negatives: Service can be slow, pool on the 20th floor not really big enough (<10m) for anything but a dip (proper pool is a 20 minute bus ride away). All in all perfectly acceptable but is never going to get 5 stars. Agree that the Domburger is a good choice.

    • Smart but flawed service

      Reviewed 21 May 2019

This is a large modern (ugly) hotel on the outskirts of Utrecht. On the plus side it is simple to access by bus from the Central Station but on the minus side you need to get the bus in order to get to a restaurant or town centre. The common areas are spacious and smart as are the rooms. However when we arrived the double bed we had requested had been made up as two singles and after the receptionist questioning if we had been in the right room it took them 24 hours to rectify this. There was no coffee machine (just instructions) and the bedside lights didnt work. These were rectified by the second day although they were never able to provide decaffeinated pods for the machine. The bathrooms were huge with a walk in shower and Jacuzzi bath but the shower tended to flood the bathroom floor. We were there for a conference and I think business conferences are probably where this hotel excels. Everything you could have wanted during a days conference (and more) was available on the conference floor. Meals were all taken in the restaurant and the food was uniformly of good quality and in copious amounts. The dinners we had in the conference were very good but there was just too much food. Service was very slow. Breakfast is about as comprehensive a buffet as you could expect anywhere. Only complaint was that the coffee was always weak. There is a swimming pool on the top floor which is very attractive but is also very small, not really room for more than two people swimming.
