    • Worst hotel Ive ever stayed at

      Reviewed 04 September 2019

I entered a canoe race last minute so I needed a room. All rooms in all hotels in the area were sold out except Uncle Billys. Paid 200.00 a night which was about 200.00 too much I wouldnt stay there again if it were free. Im really easy going but this place is disgusting. As soon as I checked in I noticed 2 dead roaches on the floor in plain site. Roaches only come out at night so this room was prob vacant the day before. AC didnt work and if youve been to Kona its really hot. In the high 90s. And the room was hotter than the outside. Front desk said they couldnt give me a new room they were sold out. No compemsation either. So the first night I slept on the entry tile with wet towels on my body to stay cool. Woke up to 2 more dead roaches 1 in the tub. 2nd night I kept the slider open until at least 5 big roaches crawled on me. I ended up sleeping in the bathtub. Rooms are old have not been remodeled in at least 20yrs. I should have checked yelp there are a bunch of similar complaints. With no response from the hotel. And I sent them an email 3 days ago no response from them. They clearly know their hotel is a dump and should be closed down by the Heath department but dont do anything about it knowing they will never have return guests. The staff was friendly to me I travel to outer islands often for races and Big Island people have always showed the most Aloha in my opinion. Im just glad I never brought my girlfriend and kids they would have left for sure. Ive been to China 13 times and stayed in some crappy places but Uncle Billys by far is the worst hotel Ive ever stayed in. Ill never stay here again. Pics are a roach in the tub. The ac filter that was never changed. And the safe with no lock on it.

Our room was booked as a Superior studio. It was dirty and quite filthy behind doors and furniture. The air conditioner needed to be condemned. It was loud and noisy and extremely old. The sliding door to the filthy balcony was dangerous as it had to be heaved to get open. It was "locked" by using a piece of wood! The screen door was filthy and did not side. The carpet was old, stained and stretched. the curtains were hanging of the track in places. No power point in the living area worked. Hairs were amongst the cutlery. We had to ask for 2 of each item. We had to ask for a plug for the kitchen sink. The kitchen cupboards were metal and rusty. The tiles were dirty. Overall, it was a horrible experience that we had booked and paid for beforehand. The fridge was a tiny inefficient unit down on the floor .. a VERY small bar fridge. No tea/ coffee provided. Very old and very run down.

This is the worst hotel on the island. Was afraid to even sit on the beds. Luckily we only showered and changed here before our flight home. This placed smelled of mold and mildew. The only thing it has going for it is the location. I don't understand how it can still operate. The receptionist told me this was a upgraded elite room. I would hate to see the regular rooms. STAY AWAY

    • Has its Pros & Cons

I stayed here for 3 nights with my 2 daughters. Pros: Price: about $100/night. Location, location, location - perfect location right in the middle of the strip in Kona. Strong WiFi signal in the room Pool is swimmable and the temp was good but it was nothing special. It was a bit deep for my youngest daughter. It is 5ft.-8ft. The hot tub has no working jets and is considered a sitting pool at 3ft. deep. Beds are descent and its pretty quiet at night so we all slept well. Good view from our 4th floor balcony. AC worked (but dripped water and didnt get that cold). TV worked and had some on demand programs but no premium channels. Fridge, microwave, and safe (we felt like we needed it) in the room. Coffee in the AM - but it is not great and usually gone by 8 and they will not make more. Cons: The whole place is very run down. Clearly maintenance/upgrades have not been a priority. We couldnt leave any food, soap or shampoo out or ants would come. Our patio is nice but the front door opens up to an alley where the homeless like to hang out. The pool rules seem to be more of suggestions rather than actual rules. A fair amount of rough play from kids/teens but we never felt unsafe. Just know it is not the most relaxing pool. The best one...when we came to the room today the maids changed the towels and made my girls bed but my bed was untouched! Strange. I heard someone else complaining to the manager about the condition of their room. Bottom line is you get what you pay for and for $100.

great place to stay in Kailua-Kona. Accommodations are nice and location is convenient. A great place to stay when visiting the West Side of the Big Island. The prices are reasonable. whencomparing them with the mega resorts.
