    • Great resort, so relaxing but dog should not be allowed to roam about in restaurant

We really enjoyed our stay here, the pool was great (especially for the kids), the staff were extremely pleasant and the rooms had good air con. We spent most of our days by the pool, which was very relaxing. You do need a car, as there is nothing to do at the resort if the weather is not good and if you want to go out for dinner to a restaurant in lovely San Gimignano. Meals at the resort were very good and great ambience. A negative is the dog, which while seemed friendly, was begging at the tables for food while we were eating; this made us feel uncomfortable, happened on numerous occasions during the week and in full view of the owners. Also, towels are only replaced once in 7 days (you can pay 5 per day if you want them changed) and shower gels/shampoo are only replenished once (we ran out on the first day and had to buy our own).

This was our 2nd visit to the villa. What an amazing place. We were welcomed back with open arms by Maria. We cant say enough about this special place! The food, the views, the staff are so wonderful! If we could... we would visit there every year! Oh.. did I mention the wine? It was very good! Keep up the great service!

What a charming little country hotel! Lovely, kind, helpful and generous hosts, breathtaking views, delicious, affordable 4-course dinners accompanied by great home-made wines. Rooms are perhaps a bit old-fashioned (bathroom could do with a bit of updating), but full of atmosphere, spacious, comfortable and pleasant (and, in our case, complete with a large terrace overlooking gorgeous views). Good hearty breakfasts with strong, fresh coffee and everything you need to go with it. Lovely swimming pool. So many little touches of attention and kindness. An absolute joy!

Perhaps the highlight of our trip. The grounds are beautiful, the access to town is easy and the property is full of history. The food was beautiful each night and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were so warm and helpful. This place is magical.

We stayed at the very special Torraccia di Chiusi in San Gimignano for three nights during a visit to Italy in May 2019. Torraccia di Chiusi is a situated on a hilltop outside San Gimignano, reachable only by driving up a 3.5 Kilometre gravel road (which wed at least twice daily in an ordinary car without problem) to reach the gate to a magical Tuscan refuge. Some of the buildings in this lovingly restored and modernized complex date back more than two millennia and it seemed to us fitting that the legendary Via Francigena pilgrimage route lies just below the property. We enjoyed a corner room of generous size which was charmingly furnished and had all the amenities, as well as stunning views of the Tuscan countryside below and all around us. A separate building includes a small bar and a cozy dining room where we enjoyed a generous breakfast each morning; we opted to also have dinner there each evening, enjoying the wood-burning fireplace (it was still cool in the evenings while we were there), while enjoying tasty Tuscan cuisine accompanied by the delicious great wines and olive oil produced on the premises. The extensive flower-filled grounds also include an outdoor covered seating area adjacent to the dining room; a large swimming pool and deck for warmer days; and an inviting entertainment building where we enjoyed both drinks and tea when we returned from our daily outings to nearby San Gimignano and Volterra. While the setting and facilities made this place special, what also made our stay at Torraccia di Chiusi so memorable was the people who hosted us there: Maria who greeted us so warmly when we first arrived and every day thereafter and gave us great tips for making the most of our time in the area; Chef Bruno and the servers who took such good care of us in the dining room; and particularly charismatic owner Donatella Sandrelli who generously shared with us the fascinating history of this property whose restoration was the result of her vision and determination. This property is a real Tuscan treasure!
