    • Got there at a very noisy time

      Reviewed 03 October 2019

This is a very large resort hotel and perhaps a bit overwhelming because of its size. Parking was a very long way away from our room which necessitated a staff member taking us and our bags to our room with an electric cart, I dont think we wouldve ever found it if we hadnt been taken there. The room was truly lovely with a spectacular bathroom and a large balcony providing a wonderful view of the pool area. Figuring out how to go from your room to get to that pool area was more than a little confusing as well, as you feel almost like youre in a bit of a maze trying to get there. When we saw that there was an adult pool area we were very pleased as we were looking forward to a little quiet time relaxing by a pool. Unfortunately the pool area that the children can use is right next to the adult pool and there is a water slide and the screaming and yelling is unbelievable. The children can also pass through the adult pool area on the way to their rooms and seem to need to scream the entire time while doing so. Since the pool was open late we decided to have dinner and then come back to the pool area and enjoy it when things quieted down after dark. Unfortunately when we got back we saw that the children had taken over the adult pool area and were doing cannonballs into the pool where we had hoped to quietly relax. They were running around the pool playing some childs game of roughhouseing and we decided to cancel our plans and just go back to our room. Sometime during the night the air-conditioning in our room mustve stopped working because the room became unpleasantly warm. As late as it was my wife did not want to call the front desk for assistance but it added to our aggravation. The next morning was a totally different experience. Apparently the unruly children were gone because the pool area was quiet and as relaxing as we had hoped for and was the high point of our experience at this resort. We decided to take are own bags to the car when checking out and that was a great mistake as we simply didnt realize how far away the car really was. There was a $32 resort fee on our bill but we had been told about that when we checked in. This is really a beautiful resort and one that we would come back to now that we understand its layout better but I think we just came when there was a horde of rowdy children roughhousing when we were looking for peace and quiet.

We had a lovely end unit, top floor junior suite that overlooked the golf course. Hint: if you want to avoid the cacophony of screaming children at the pools, ask for building C room 372. Off Sunrise in northwest Tucson, Westin La Palma is perfectly situated for a quiet, somewhat remote respite from daily rigors. Set to a back drop of mountains and desert flora, this peaceful resort is a great destination for exploring excursions to Mountain Lemmon and Catalina Highway beauty. We began with a refreshment at the Azul Lounge, where just after checking in we enjoyed a very reasonably priced and tasty margarita ($10) and glass of Prosecco ($9). We surprised our server with our discovery of the rock formation that we dubbed our "Mountain Lion". Check out our photo and see if you can spot her/him! The room was spacious, with a nice veranda, fridge, and very comfortable bed. The shower enclosure was rather small too. Now for the down falls: super cheap toilet paper, a dated single-person tub, and absolutely no decaffeinated coffee or tea with the hot water pot. The breakfast buffet at Azul (go off-site for dinner) was decent. For $21 per person, the spread of scrambled eggs, potaots, sausages, breads, juices, fruit, cereals, and a few other items, was reasonably priced for a resort. It was just enough fuel for stamina for our excursion to Mount Lemmon. There are beautifully scenic pathways throughout the property and the golf course looks very nice. If you chose to be lazy or have heavy bags, the drivers will shuttle you back and forth on golf carts. Lastly, self-parking is advisable if you want to avoid the $25 daily valet fee. If you have your valet parking comp'ed, as we did, we tipped $5 each time that we went in and out.

Grounds amenities are great - mountain and city lights views, great golf course, 5 pools, beautiful landscaping, fun bar, several onsite restaurants, fire pit area. Lobby is spacious and great to congregate in. Room quality (bathroom, linens, space, decor) - superior to any Westin. L-o-n-g walks to parking or lobby or restaurants if you're in the farther buildings. Request rooms towards center. Resort fee of $29 - even if you don't use anything...

In general this is a nice hotel. Well laid out and maintained. The accommodation buildings are needing updates to bring this hotel up to a higher standard. I've stayed here with work colleagues and have heard of running toilets and poor ac cooling as downsides. Overall as a family vacation spot the hotel is in a great location in the foothills 20 mins to downtown Tucson.

Wonderfully relaxing setting with outstanding mountain views and tidy, interesting desert landscaping. Feels quite tranquil. Excellent pools, waterside. Attended for a conference -- conference spaces not as remarkable as the rest of the property. App responses pretty quick and demonstrated a caring attitude -- wished staff could make note customized attraction recommendations. Nonetheless, great stay with a welcoming, efficient check in. Self and valet parking available. Close to an upscale shopping center. Sunrise best near I (like igloo) building -- be sure to get up and enjoy.
