      I stayed here for 3 nights in July in a room which had a great view of Kilimanjaro from the window and the bar,food and the staff were all amazing and very helpful...i would definitely stay here next time im in moshi.

    • Warm welcome, beautiful surroundings

      We had a very pleasant stay in secret garden hotel! Me and 3 friends of mine stayed for 3 days to relax but also see the beautiful surroundings of moshi. In the mornings we enjoyed a nice breakfast with coffee and tea. The staff was very friendly and recommended us several day trips including the hot springs and a coffee tour.The warm shower and a tasty vegetarian diner with a view on the Kilimanjaro were a good way to end the day full of activities!

    • Decent place to stay when in Moshi

      We stayed at the Secret Garden for 2 nights in July. Our room was clean, the bar is nice, the breakfast excellent and most staff are very friendly and helpful. We did, however, have a couple of issues on arrival. We got to the hotel at around 2pm on the day of checking in, but they didn't seem ready for us. A young employee told us to drink the juice he had brought us slowly as they were currently cleaning our room. I thought this was strange as we hadn't exactly arrived early and felt that they should have been expecting us and had the room ready. The young employee then disappeared and left us alone in the reception area. After 30 minutes we had to go looking for staff as the original guy had disappeared. When we finally go into our room we realised that the door wouldn't lock. Again a bit strange as I would have expected them to know about this problem and have fixed it before we arrived. For the next hour we had people banging away at the lock, which was eventually fixed. Despite these issues we did enjoy our stay, although probably wouldn't stay here again if we were in Moshi.

      We stayed at this hotel before starting our Kilimanjaro trek through Machame route and it was really the best , service and staff was great with always smiling and ready to help attitude. Also stayed last night after the trek at this place. Must stay place for trekkers.

    • Management errors and bizarre budget bathrooms

      We were excited to stay 1 night at the Secret Garden, Moshi, after our 4 day Serengeti safari. Website looked great, reviews were good, and prices were reasonable. However, due to an error by the hotel management team, we had to forfeit our stay. Story: We reserved our stay several days in advance. Since we anticipated arriving at 9pm, we called the hotel 4hrs earlier to inform the manager, who quickly told us it would be totally fine. However, upon arrival, we found they had given our room away! The staff thought our reservation was a joke/prank - since we listed a local Tanzania phone number - and they hadn't bothered to actually check anything when we phoned to confirm our arrival time. This was really disappointing and thus the 3* review. The good: * Staff were friendly, polite, genuinely apologetic, and tried admirably to find alternative rooms at Secret Garden and their affiliated 'Better Inn' * The Secret Garden was beautifully lit at night, reception decor was welcoming. The bad: * The manager/staff really need to do better a better job of managing reservations! * We expected to stay in a double or triple room. Instead we were shown 'budget twin' rooms at a lower price point. These bunk bed rooms were small, cramped, and either had no attached en suite or had unacceptable bathrooms... The ugly: * The en suite bathrooms for the 'budget twin' were tiny with the shower head positioned literally 20 inches/50cm from the toilet bowl. I wish I had taken a photo to show this bizarre bathroom design. But I was honestly too shocked and could only shake my head in disbelief. Lessons: * Management need to provide better service * Management need to better advertise that the 'budget twin' is priced so much lower. due to smaller room size and bizarre bathrooms. (I assume the non-budget room we had reserved was much nicer with a proper bathroom given the overall good reviews) * Guests should be aware that free 'reservations' might not be honored. Instead, book with a credit card and list an international phone number. (As above, listing a Tanzania phone number is perceived to be a joke/prank by this hotel). Good luck!
