    • We had the best stay

      Reviewed 27 August 2019

We stayed as a family of four at the Purple Tree Hotel and we were not disappointed. The room was very cosy and loads of space for the kids to run around in. Room was super clean and I'm told that there is lots of refurbishment work being carried out as it's recently been taken over by new owners Ian and Debbie. The breakfast is superb, full English was spot on and there's lots of other choices on the menu and a little help yourself area of fruit, pastries, yoghurts and cereals. Ian and Debbie are fantastic, friendly hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The pool was an absolute winner with us, especially the children. With the heat wave last week, it was a super bonus that we had this fabulous pool to jump into. Great games room also and only 15 minute walk to the beach. Brilliant location, great facilities and we will absolutely be back next year.

    • Great for families

We stayed at this lovely b and b as a family of 4. We stayed in a family room that was plenty big enough for us (children 5 and 3) with easy access to the pool, that both children loved, despite the water being very cold that didn't deter the kids from jumping in and having fun. The breakfast is fantastic and the new hosts are very friendly and welcoming. We will definately be returning next year to see how the new owners are getting on with the refurbishment. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    • Needs to Improve

The hotel was called THE RICHWOOD and has been run down by the previous owners. The new owners Ian and Debbie are trying to get it back up and running again. It has almost lost the blue colour. The rooms are being redecorated one at a time. The price now includes a fairly good breakfast. Now it has become a family hotel so being by the pool you have to watch what you wear as it now lets kids in. The spa is now free but not heated and neither is the pool as previous owners let the heater pack up. The door code needs to be changed as its a easy number. As its now a family hotel doubt if it will get used again.

I stayed here with my daughter in room 15. The room at the back of the guest house was very comfortable and had a view out across the pool and over Torquay. Far enough not to be in the noisy nightlife, but close to be accessible. The outdoor pool has a spa tub, the water from which then flows into the pool. Debbie and Ian have recently taken the guest house over and are working through the premises to bring it to the place they want it to be. They were a delightful friendly and welcoming couple who made every effort to a accommodate our needs. The breakfast available was a cooked for you English or cereals, toast Fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee. Would definitely stay again without hesitation.

Brilliant stay, owners very friendly and let us check in before normal check in time. We stayed in room 12 which had just been refurbished and was beautiful and great for us with our 4 year old. Plenty of space. Beds comfy. Breakfast was very good. Dont normally eat everything on a full English but I didnt leave a thing. Will definitely be returning in the future.
