There was scalding water from the sink in the room and the staff didn't seem to know how dangerous this could be. The old decor and average food in the restaurant, meant this hotel wouldn't be high on my list for a return visit.

room was clean and well furnished. Food good quality and service excellent, especially the receptionists Only problem was lack of lift, if you have mobility problems. we had 2 flights of stairs to our executive suite.

Great welcome from the receptionist. Booked for one night at short notice, arrived within 30 minutes and the room was ready. Breakfast was of good quality but the bacon was a little tough, needs to be cooked fresh for each guest. I am willing to wait for great bacon.

    • NOT THE WORST HOTEL I'VE STAYED IN, BUT FALLING WELL SHORT OF THE BEST.

The Hotel building is beautiful, and the gardens very pretty. Our room overlooked the extremely busy, in the peak hours stationary, M62 motorway, but the secondary glazing was so good that there was absolutely no road noise. The room itself was spotlessly clean, although a little dated. The bed nearest the window could do with a new mattress as there was an uncomfortable "dip" in the middle. I had to use the extra pillow to sleep on to fill the dip. The Hotel has obviously been renovated in certain areas (the dining room and comfortable lounge were very pleasant indeed), so it is probably a work in progress to get all rooms up to a modern standard too. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We had dinner in the Hotel dining room, but I'm afraid one of the meals was disappointing - the meat was drastically overcooked to the point of being inedible, as were the roast potatoes. To add insult to injury - AND NOT AT ALL THE FAULT OF THE HOTEL OR THE STAFF - there was a group of six, two women and four men, who came into the Dining Room after us (we had been the only two in there until then). One of the ladies - an Australian - had a really strident voice, which consumed all around her. None of the others in the group got a look in when she started droning on about her Kindle, and its virtues. Lady; please, think about others and ponder on the fact that they may not (definitely did not) want their quiet evening spoiled by your inane rantings about a blessed Kindle! Sadly, thanks to her, a poor meal was made worse. The "Full English" breakfast was poor, in that the sausages had obviously been pre-cooked then thrown into a deep fat fryer to heat them up. Sadly, the result was that the outer skin was cremated, and when I tried to cut the first one, it refused to be speared and skidded off the plate; across the table, then across the floor. The second sausage proved just as difficult; when I stuck the fork in and cut across the end of the sausage, the remainder reared up like an erection and would not cut through. I gave that up as a bad job and moved on to the bacon, but that was like shoe leather, so also had to be abandoned. My friend's Eggs Florentine breakfast was acceptable, although smothered in too much sauce, which she found rather spoiled it. As my header suggests, it was not all doom and gloom, however, I can only write my reviews as honestly as I find the Hotels I stay in. Good points are recognised, but poor areas are pointed out too.

Friendly and welcoming staff. Comfortable rooms and good basic English Menus, bar and restaurant options. Clean, warm and aesthetically pleasing and calming decor. Easy to chill out. Garden for kids to run around. We would stay here again.
