    • Awful food! Beware...

Met a friend for London last Sat evening. He stayed over for an event the next day. We booked for dinner and was told Tapas only. Well - I love Tapas but this was awful. Tiny portions and not inspiring. We ordered a nice bottle of red to be told not in stock so took a recommended alternative, which was served chilled, certainly not room temperature. Long story short, my friend was very ill overnight vomiting, I had upset stomach for 24 hours (I didn't eat the seafood tapas but we shared everything else). It almost ruined the event the next day. I went to the Kings Head after it was refurbished and it was awful then but assumed it would have been better now. Recommend after a great lunch at the Plough at Sparsholt, or The Peat Spade (near Stockbridge) or numerous other local pubs but not here. The room was fine apparently but not when you spent all night in the bathroom.

We called in as it was lunch time and it was enroute. We were given a large table down a couple of steps. Staff were very friendly and service was good. Our salt seller was empty as was the one on the next table, but we found one eventually. Two roast beef dinners (excellent beef), one roast pork one tacos and a sweet potato curry. That plus drinks for 103 for the five of us was good value. The one thing that let it down was getting a copy of the bill once we had paid. It took 12 minutes standing there waiting as they played with the tills.

Weve been coming here for several years and the service as always been good. We popped in for a drink today and were greeted with an unenthusiastic and rude barman. I dont expect a song and dance but something more than a grunt and sour face would be a start. We were going to stay for supper but couldnt be bothered.

Stayed for one night on our way to Southampton. The food is very good but felt the room was not worth what we paid. The bed was comfortable and room a reasonable size but quite a noisy road outside. The property is not manned at night which may put customers off in case there is an emergency.

Stayed overnight while travelling down to the South West coast. Really good experience, nice pub, great food and lovely room. Nothing was too much for the staff and the manager was super helpful. Simple pub food, but really well done and great service. Totally recommended and loved our day in Winchester.
