Shower in our room would only stay on scalding hot so could have cool shower in afternoon before going out for evening in one of the hottest days of the year! Told the guy who booked us in he said they would look at it, they didnt so no shower when returning to room that night. Up for breakfast no veggie or vegan option for my partner and her sister who was staying in other room with her hubby. So beans in toast but not much else. Me and him asked for full breakfast. Disappointing one egg bacon sausage and half a tomato he didnt have beans! All cooked nicely but no mushrooms hash brown and my sister asked for a poached egg they couldnt do it. All in all a very couldnt be bothered dont ask me sort of attitude from the staff and especially the owner who was cooking the breakfasts. Even had a sly comment about having too much toast. I informed her about the shower not being able to be used and she said I should have said something first of all. I did I said and she just shrugged her shoulders and said well you can use the shower in another room but it was time to check out at this point. Again a very lazy couldnt be asked to deal with any guests either dealing with breakfast requests or room problems No mention of a reduction in the room price which incidentally you had to pay on check in so dont do it only pay on check out. Nice location but bad very bad customer care Dissatisfied and disappointed

Chose this guest house as in close proximity to the race course. Lovely room, compact, but decorated nicely and very clean. Great breakfast. Situated in central area on a one way side road. Easy access to shops and restaurants. Also home to a hairdressers and pizza restaurant downstairs. Was a little noisy while clearing bottles into bins on late evening and being collected in morning. Early morning road traffic from side road and large main road near by. Room 4 is directly facing the road, its an old building so has sash windows(no double glazing) PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO ONSITE PARKING. USE THE PARKING BY THE CASTLE VERY REASONABLE AND LONG TERM.

This was the start of our walking holiday on Offas Dyke and was well positioned both for starting the walk and returning via train from our end point. The welcome was perfunctory and the card machine was brandished and payment taken before we even saw our rooms . These were adequate but our bathroom had no soap and only a shampoo toiletry .one towel only was provided and that was barely used as there was no hot water available for showers in the morning throughout the hotel apparently. Breakfast was average but for the tea drinker the expectation that hot water on top of a coffee filter machine is adequate to make a good cup of tea is unacceptable. I did request boiling water which was given after I had explained I did not wish to use the hot water available. I was made to feel a nuisance. This was compounded by being accused of bringing dry mud into the entrance hall as we left our bags for collection by the transfer service , this was possibly some old mud off our boots but as another hotelier remarked later that week , this is an occupational hazard . It certainly didnt make our overall experience feel any warmer especially after the cold shower start .

    • Service very poor and then they have actual stolen from us

      Reviewed 07 May 2019

Location was great and this is our second stay at the same hotel however after this time we will not be going back. We turned up and after ringing the reception bell for 30 minutes we had to walk into the staff area to get someone to check us in and then service was really poor as we were given a key and just told you were in room 3 but not shown to the room. We then went down for breakfast in the morning (advertised between 8 and 9.30) at 8.40 and it had been cleared away as they said they thought everyone had been down and then proceeded to ask us which room we were in???? We then made the unfortunate mistake of leaving our jackets in the room on check out which I appreciate is not ideal however it happens and when I called and emailed I was told they were not there, however they never left the room as the weather was really hot. As a consequence my fianc has had a Barbour jacket stolen and Ive had a leather jacket that was the last gift I ever got from my grandma before she passed away nicked. I cant believe that people can sleep knowing they stole peoples things. Needless to say I will. It recommend them and really hope they have a change of conscious and rectify the jackets as they are a small team so there is only a limited amount people that would have cleaned the room and if they didnt then it doesnt bode well for how they clean the rooms if they missed two jackets for the next guests to steal.
