Wonderful place, great food and excellent service
ReviewedWe heard about Cricket for many years but every time we drove by there was a line. Last week we came to Portland on a weekday and we are very glad we stopped by. Both my wife and I had a skillet. Servings were a good size. Ingredients were fresh. I was very impressed with the service in a town known for good service. Coffee was refilled promptly I suggest you go on a weekday if able.
Barney LChampions of breakfast indeed!
ReviewedMy January 2019 Portland trip brought me back to the Cricket Cafe for the first time in a long time. My first visit was a number of years ago, under different ownership and wasnt particularly memorable. I decided to give Cricket another try as it was just down the block from where I was staying and my wife and son who were with me didnt feel like driving elsewhere for brunch that day. The place was almost full with people eating breakfast so that looked encouraging and we went in. The staff were friendly and took our orders quickly. Glancing at what our fellow diners were eating looked promising, too. My wife had eggs Benny, our son ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy, and I had a type of southwestern hash served in a cast iron skillet. Our food arrived in good time and looked and tasted delicious! The portions are generous and prices are very fair. It looks like the new owners have tidied up the place but hey, this is a Belmont Street neighbourhood eatery, so dont expect linen tablecloths. Cricket Cafe is just a solid, unpretentious and friendly spot that isnt trying to get itself featured on The Food Channel (thank God!). Hopefully it stays this way as I am looking forward to future visits to this great little place.
Chris MHidden Gem of Breakfast in Portland
ReviewedMy family has been going to Cricket for over 10 years. Even though they closed and reopened it still is our favorite place for brunch. The drinks are creative yet comfortable, the food is fabulous (hash!) and staff is attentive. Its one of the only things I miss from our old home.
ryvanarsdalestreet fair vendor/ no food for me
ReviewedWas a vendor at the Belmont Street Fair today (9-8-18). Checked out places for breakfast before I went so we could have something to eat while we set up. Decided what we wanted 3 days before we went. Sent my husband down to get some food, he was back less than 10 minutes later. The hostess told him that he could order a to go order at the cash register. They told him that they were too busy and that they could not serve him. I was shocked when my husband came back empty handed. Here we are helping out the Belmont neighborhood and are treated like we don't matter. I would think that a take out order on a busy day would be better than a half full table making a full table of patrons wait.
bigspineyGreat Food & Unsanitary Service
ReviewedJust visited the Cricket Cafe for very tasty Bloody Marys and Brunch for the second time in less than a year. Sadly, it will be our last visit as I was stunned by the unsanitary practices by our waitress. We happened to be seated adjacent to where the food comes/goes from the kitchen. I watched the waitress drinking and eating finger foods in-between taking meals to tables. I witnessed her using her fingers to pick up bacon and put it on the plate she brought to our table. When I pointed out such poor practices to her, she laughingly apologized and said that she had washed her hands before touching the bacon because she knew I was sitting there! Imagine what she does when not in view of patrons!!! This on top of her chattering away with another employee while part of our food order sat under the heat-lamp. No, I would not recommend this cafe!
