    • Still great soup, but . . .

This was a nostalgic, "I wonder how it will compare to visits of decades past?" kind of trip. The soup was still fantastic. Creamy. Spiced just so. Filling. And the chocolate shake was still a cool cloud of indulgent flavor. But. The tired physical surroundings . . . and then when I went into the men's room off the lobby, I was suddenly transported to downtown Los Angeles, and not in a good way. The large bathroom mirror was clouded with graffiti carvings. As in etched with sharp objects. The plumbing fixtures had the deep green patina of long neglect. It was definitely an, "OMG, I'm so glad my father and grandparents did not live see this!" kind of moment. How the mighty have fallen, as family ownership was replaced by apparent corporate indifference.

    • Always a delight to stop at Pea Soup Andersen's

This historic restaurant always serves quality food and offers diners a wide variety of menu choices. Of course, pea soup is on the menu and may be had as a side or as the whole meal, along with freshly baked bread. The gift shop is fun to browse and contains unique food and gift items. There's also a bakery with yummy pastries and sweets. Pea Soup Andersen's has it all and is a memorable place for travelers to stop.

    • An interesting relic of a place

Anyone who has lived in California has probably heard of Pea Soup Anderen's. This was the first time we had ever been to one of the locations. First impression was that it was the typical tourist trap restaurant. You have to walk through the shop that sells their products to get to and from the restaurant. We were seated right away. The restaurant decor is shabby, worn out diner. Our waiter was very nice and professional. There were many other gentlemen who filled our water and took our plates. As for the food, well, it was unmemorable. We tried the pea soup. It was ok, but truthfully not any better than what I can make at home. My husband started with the pickled herring appetizer. It was a HUGE plate filled with mayonnaise with the herring mixed in. He literally had to search through the slop for the herring. I honestly don't remember what else I had for dinner. It apparently did not make an impression on me. I'm glad we finally tried this place, but I would not return.

    • It is a shame this place isn't busier - the food is delicious

We were visiting Solvang and decided to drive out to the Pea Soup place - the food didn't disappoint. Great pea soup (we got the traveler's special) and pot roast. I always remember the pot roast - and it is still great. Too much food for one person, so we got a doggie bag. And it was still tasty a few days later at home. It is too bad the place isn't busier - the food and service were excellent. It is great to look around at the shops inside. We stopped and took our picture with Happy Pea and Pea Wee outside - we have one from each of our visits since 1976!
