    • Didn't have the pleasure of staying here yet

This is one of several hotels my spouse and I had booked while planning our trip to Scotland. We needed to cancel our stay due to a death in the family. They were more than accommodating (not all places were), and although they didn't have to refund our stay, they did so graciously, and I just wanted to let people know that besides what looks like a beautiful place to stay and dine, they care about the people who do business with them. I am hoping to rebook our trip one day, and when we do, they will be the first place we contact. Thank-you Knockendarroch Hotel!

We cannot get enough of this fantastic, gem of a hotel. From the moment you step through the door you feel the calm, warmth and romance of the place. The rooms are immaculately kept, the staff are exceptional and the best bit is the most amazing food with a daily changing menu,WOW! This was our 3rd visit within the year and yes, we will be back!

We have just returned from our fourth visit to Knockendarroch and every visit has been perfection. This time we recommended the hotel to friends and they joined us. We were upgraded to a suite which was outstanding - spacious and straight out of an interiors magazine. The staff are exceptionally professional, helpful and cheerful. The food is simply outstanding - every meal we have had has been amazing. Gorgeous lounge for canaps and drinks before your meal. Its not cheap but you get what you pay for. Definitely our favourite Scottish hotel. Will return again soon. Thank you for a truly lovely stay.

25 years ago we stayed at a country house hotel which set the standard we've always tried re find. The owner's of the Balgonie in Ballater retired leaving quite a gap for us. Driving up there on a dark, wet evening, at the end of a pretty challenging week, we were so pleased driving up the driveway to the hotel. Imagine how much more delighted we were being greeted at the door by the owner. Being asked to just leave our luggage with him to deal with whilst we were shown into a warm cosy lounge, roaring log fire, and drinks and menu's organised. The rest of the weekend was absolute bliss. Excellent food, and fantastic service. 25 year's later, we had a similar journey. A cold, wet , dark evening and the roadworks on the A9. We had really high hopes for this stay. Arriving at the Knockendarroch, we unfortunately arrived just behind some other guests which resulted in a little wait. Check in could have been warmer. We were especially taken aback by the brusquely delivered message that only early or late slots were left for dinner and we were left to trudge our way to our room with all our bits and pieces without offer of assistance. Going into our room, it was small, dark and absolutely perishing. We sat there thinking, this is just not what we'd hoped for. I just share this story to underline the importance of first impressions. So how on earth could I consider this hotel worth an overall very good??? Especially as we had to go hunting on two occasions for water glasses and biscuits ( one packet / 2 biscuits..... seemed a little mean). And no toiletries to speak of. Well, we started by turning the heating up and putting the small lights on. The room quickly heated up. The dcor was tasteful and we soon thought of the room as cosy. It subsequently turned out that the mattress was one of the most comfortable we'd experienced. Downstairs in the lounge which was an absolute oasis, we were warmly greeted ( by the same person as check in I should stress), drinks orders taken and menu's provided. There was a lovely warm atmosphere in this space, with two roaring log fires and the dcor tastefully Scottish without being smothering. Lovely, comfy, patterned sofa's and chair's to sink into. Dinner on both evenings was excellent. Quality of preparation, presentation and service superb. We'd expected that the menu might be the same over the two evenings we stayed, but no, completely different options. Breakfast was equally as good. A nice choice of dishes and again delicious. Service to was excellent. There but unobtrusive. The hotel itself is well situated. A short walk to the main Street. Some stunning walk's all around Pitlochry but especially up by Loch Faskally. The current theatre production of a Christmas Carol has strong similarities to 'Play Away' for those whose memories drift back that far. This may or may not haunt you. We especially noted and appreciated the little touches. The fire's were kept lit all day in the lounge which was most welcoming. And fresh logs constantly added. Fresh tablecloths were always laid after departing guests, and rather than crush people together at dinner, tables were relaid to give other diner's room around them. And did I mention the overall excellent service!!! Was it as good as the Balgonie? No. But it was very very close and we very much look forward to visiting again.

Booked this for a very last minute weekend away. This is a true gem of a hotel. We stayed in a premier room with beautiful views over the hills. The rooms, like the hotel, are well appointed and elegantly furnished. The hotel lounge has roaring log fires and canaps are served with pre-dinner drinks. The dining room is cozy with a lovely ambience but the food is the star of the show in there. Absolutely fantastic. We found that many of the other guests seemed to be repeat customers and its easy to see why. The hotel is lovely, the food is amazing, the staff are friendly and the service is great. The hotel is a short walk to the town and a short drive to many places of interest - these are all helpfully detailed in the in-room guide. We look forward to returning.
