    • Great but could be improved

      Reviewed 10 September 2019

Stayed here for two nights with my partner for a weekend getaway. On first impressions from the outside, the hotel isn't much to look at but when you go inside it's really lovely. We had a nice room which looked like it had been recently decorated and appreciated the little touches such as fresh milk in the fridge for tea/coffee. Unfortunately the bathroom didn't look so recently done and was a bit of a let down. That said, the room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. The restaurant and bar are really quite expensive but both foods and drink were of a high quality. The breakfast was a real treat - lot of choice on offer and a great system for serving the hot English breakfast, meaning you could pick and choose what you wanted. The pub nearby the hotel (Parons Collar) is really good too and an alternative if you don't want to pay the hotel prices. The only real let down of the weekend was the other guests. There was a number of weddings going on during the Saturday evening and some of the guests were being really loud, rude and quite frankly just obnoxious. The management need to get that under control, as it's not what you expect when you're paying those sort of prices. Overall, a nice place which we will revisit but a few tweaks here and there could make it really special.

    • Spa day - could have been such a treat

The day started with such promise. Really enjoyed the treatment- amazing facial from Tess. Unfortunately there were problems after this that let the day down. I purchased a voucher from Travelzoo to treat my sister for her birthday & we were excited to have a day to ourselves with a little pampering. My sister's back massage was a little on the harsh side but lunch was really the first issue. We moved forward our lunch to 12.00 (from 12.30) so that we could take our time enjoying our lunch at the suggestion of a staff member, before the hot tub we had booked at 1.30. After ordering what we thought was a simple lunch - a toasted sandwich & grilled chicken caesar salad, followed by a rhubarb & shortbread dessert - we had to chase our food as we were still waiting for it at 12.40. The food was delicious when it finally arrived but we felt the wait was not satisfactory. The bar & restaurant hadn't even looked that busy. We only just got to the hot tub with a couple of minutes to spare only to be told our time was up 15 minutes earlier than was due! A breakdown in organisation and communication seems to be a significant issue at Solent Hotel & Spa.

    • Great stay

We stayed here overnight as we were picking up a cruise the following day. We had a 4 poster bed!! It was fabulous. Room was lovely coffee machine & kettle, milk in the fridge. We didn't have dinner at the hotel it did look pricey but there was a pub just opposite the hotel so we ate there. The pool looked fab but we didn't get chance to use it. We had a package bed breakfast car parking for 2 weeks & taxi there & back. No complaints

    • Four star facilities but two star service

We had a family room which was spacious and well appointed, kids drinks, dressing gowns, fridge, tea and coffee, biscuits all provided, the swimming pool was great and the hotel was very comfortable. The grounds were nice and there is a small wood at the rear, car parking is free and spaces plentiful, the location is perfect, just off the M27 giving easy access to beaches, attractions and cities. The Whitley shopping and leisure complex is a five minute drive away and has a vast choice of restaurants. The service from the hotel is poor, every day something went wrong,I ordered a daily paper and after two days of no delivery,I discovered the receptionist had failed to order it,after correcting this still no paper! Toilet rolls not replenished again I had to go to reception who again failed to bring them to the room after two hours Another trip to reception.Coffee pods not replenished and no tissues for three days. Finally the restaurant would not honour its set meal deal during the whole of our stay,I managed to force them on the first night but was told that there was no set meal deal for the rest of the week. This made eating at this restaurant very expensive for six of us, so we had to go to the Whiteley Shopping Centre every night, made reception aware when leaving but little reaction.

From the minute we checked in ...Room not set up for child and stated did not book child in !! Did sort . Starter came after 1 hour ! Then waited another 45 mins no main asked and they had forgotten to give to us but system said we had eaten !! Now a very hungry child ... food arrived all Dryed up evidently been left under heater . Didnt eat went to bed hungry , child forced chicken ... felt ill all as I had fish only had half . Manager informed and did not charge us for meal or drinks but not the point of a night away . No atmosphere in bar either very dull . Arrived for breakfast and we had been removed from the list with pen again as if we had rated . All in all a very unpleasant stay for the money . 180 for one night with breakfast and appalling service. Never to return !
