    • Tranquil, wonderful place with superb food

      Reviewed 19 August 2019

We came here as the final destination of a e-bike tour with e-bike Tuscany in Pienza (extremely recommended) and had the most fantastic dinner served by the kind owners and their staff. The place is wonderfully quiet and peaceful and highly recommended for the dinner. We did not stay at their place, so I cannot comment on the quality of that.

I had my wedding here and I have so many positive things to say about Il Rigo! The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious, the views were spectacular, and the buildings have the old Italian farmhouse charm. Stay here, you won't regret it!

    • Spectacular location, charming rooms, great food, warm hospitality, delightful stay.

During a recent 3 week trip through Italy, we had the happy experience of lodging here for 5 nights. From the planning stages and booking process all the way through the actual stay, everyone at Il Rigo helped make our experience one we will always remember. First, the location is amazing. It is in the stunning Val d'Orcia, a photographer's paradise, and home to some of the most iconic images of Tuscany. If you have ever browsed the Internet for images of southern Tuscany, chances are the most beautiful ones were taken within a few miles of Il Rigo. It is a terrific home base for visiting the area, and charming hill towns such as Pienza, Montalcino, and Montepulciano are all within a short drive. The agriturismo itself is located in a lovely off-the-beaten-path spot, and you will hear absolutely no traffic. The property's flower beds, surrounding rolling fields, central courtyard, and even the building itself are all postcard beautiful. Our room, #3, was a wonderful mix of old world charm and modern amenities. Opening up our green wooden shutters in the morning, smelling the fresh country air, and looking at the spectacular view was one of the highlights of our trip. Breakfast, included with the price of the room, was very generous and delicious. Fresh yogurt, fresh local fruit, homemade cakes and pastries, an assortment of locally sourced meats and cheeses, assorted teas and coffee, and cream (warmed for the coffee - wonderful!) awaited us each morning. It is also very worthwhile to book at least one dinner at Il Rigo. Just let them know early in the day so they can plan. We had some of our best meals in all of Italy at Il Rigo. You will be treated to southern Tuscan specialties sourced locally and served by the helpful and friendly staff. The owners of Il Rigo will be the ones who will actually greet you and take care of you, start to finish, and they were all just wonderful. By the end of the stay, we felt like we had made friends who would be missed. If you have the time to take a cooking class with Lorenza, we would highly recommend it as well. She likes to know a couple of weeks before your stay if possible. Cooking with Lorenza was one of the highlights of our trip. Bottom line: It is difficult to put into words all the things that make this place so special. But if you are trying to narrow down a list of lodgings in the area, we highly recommend Il Rigo. The location, staff, and food were all top notch. We loved our stay and hope to be able to return.

    • Better than we could have imagined!

This agriturismo was even better than we imagined! The surrounding countryside truly is as breathtaking as the photos - the morning view from our window was stunning. Perfect location for exploring Tuscany (we took day trips to Siena, to driving routes through Val d'Orcia for gorgeous rural scenery and hillside villages, went on countryside walks and took a spa day at the nearby Bagno Vigdoni. Staff were so friendly and helpful with terrific recommendations and tips. So accomodating and caring. Felt like friends by the end of the stay. Also, I'm very selective on restaurants and the quality of ingredients/technique and the breakfast and dinner was excellent - everything handmade, sourced from their farm or with high quality local organic ingredients and expertly executed. Still dreaming of that pesto lasagna... Highly recommend in every way!
