    • Best location and setting

      We stayed at the Sofitel for 5 nights in September. The room was spacious, very comfortable with a great view. We had the room with no balcony. Check in was easy and I must recommend Ingrid and Audrey at reception for great service and friendliness. We never had meals at the hotel as we like to try different restaurants in the town. We also did not use the spa facilities or services. The hotel is located in an ideal location and the setting of the hotel is magnificent. We truly had a great rest. We will be back. Porticcio is just the most wonderful place.

      we stayed at sofitel porticcio for the first time, what an enchanting setting and gardens !!! Despite the comments seen on trip, we tried the restaurant of the hotel. What a nice surprise! the staff certainly young, is full of good will, and very smiling! The food is tasty and well presented. the breakfast is exceptional in a truly superb setting! Small minus the price of rooms that takes nothing to the frame! to finish we had a stay for pleasant! we will definitely return to this corner of France !!!

      While this hotel is excellent when it comes to accommodation, the same cannot be said for the service in the restaurant and bar. Pre dinner drinks ordered on the terrace took half an hour to arrive. Meals took over an hour to arrive. It was the worst service anyone in our group had ever experienced. Not the standard one expects from a hotel of this caliber.

      The hotel is in an amazing position and has huge potential. However, service was sometimes unacceptably unskilled, unhelpful (we also had a borderline-rude exchange with the swimming pool area personnel...). Room had an outstanding view but was very small (almost no storage space) and desperately needing some refurbishment most like the rest of the hotel. Hotels private beach is quite small but that gets compensated by the very nice pool area.

      I must agree that several of the reviews are spot on that the hotel is definitely not a five stars hotel, very much because of the poor service. The location is wonderful, the classic room is rather spacious (avoid the rooms with balcony, they are smaller and not worth the extra cost), nicely decorated and with very comfortable, big beds. The big salt water pool and the beach are very nice, the beach rather small though. The pool deck is large and plenty of deck chairs (those could, however, been of a better quality, its not five stars!). The food is good and both the inside and outside lounges are very cool and smooth, and having a drink in the sun set is a treat if you get the drink! And here I come to the hotels big challenge that made me and my travelling friends (we were nine in the group staying for one week) disappointed, frustrated and very irritated. The service was extremely slow in the bar, the pool area, and in both restaurants. We had breakfast, dinner and lunch in the main restaurant (a disappointment was that the table setting was the same for lunch and dinner - you would have expected of a five star hotel at least table linen for the dinner!), and from ordering to getting the food on the table (one course) it could take more than 45 minutes. One day at lunch we mentioned that we had an appointment at 14.00 (we arrived at 12.30) still we had to wait and wait (also after talking to the matre d about the problem but no action was taken!). The same thing happened in the bar restaurant where we had several lunches. From ordering to getting drinks and food it could take up to an hour. And back to the outside garden/lounge area, drinks were even forgotten to be served! This is not what you expect from a five stars hotel. Even though the food was good, the prices for both food and drinks are stiff and with this kind of poor service, exaggerated. Claiming to be a five stars hotel, the service must be impeccable and its not. I dont want to blame the personnel, they were kind and pleasant and tried hard but seemed to be inexperienced and having their first job with no training (I recommend having dinner one night at the nearby - only 10 minutes walk - restaurant Le Marquis, its another world!). The total lack of supervision, matre d and management throughout the hotel was astonishing. Whats surprising is that the management of the hotel and of the Sofitel group have not picked up these obvious challenges the hotel has before the high season started. Also, when checking out, the hotel had charged us 200 Euro, 18%, more than we should have been charged - mainly because of lack of a good billing system in the restaurant for breakfast, dinner and lunch. The receptionist was not very kind and did not offer any excuse for the mistake. Despite what my review might indicate, all nine of us really liked the hotel and we would love to come back, but I would like to see reviews during the coming year that tells another story that proofs that the hotel lives up to their five stars.
