    • Beautiful stay at Hacienda Del Mar

Awesome time at Hacienda Del Mar, beautiful landscaping, clean rooms, excellent service. We like pillows a little softer but overall were ok. Friendly staff. Great choice of restaurants on sight at reasonable prices before the discount card offered by the resort. We would definitely return and highly recommend staying here.

It was great but I wish there was transportation from the hotel itself also my hotel window and broken and hit me in the head which ruined a whole day. I have to get it checked out by a dr. Other than that the room had a great view and the staff was friendly.

Great staff, food and service. Facility is a little older probably needs some updates (I stayed in building 5) so I'm not sure about the other buildings. The pool with the swim up bar was closed. Bathrooms at pools are quite smelly!! This is also a getting close to the water beach. Has great grounds flowers, plants trees. It was a nice place !!!

Hacienda del Mar overall is a good resort! The only problem as most other rci resorts, is the timeshare presentation which always is way longer than the 90 min as promised. We got a room upgrade, so really cant complaint much :-)

We stayed a week at the end of April as guests of a longtime timeshare owner. We were in a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom room on the top floor of the building furthest from the ocean (room 1741). The furnishings were comfortable and clean and the kitchen was sparsely but adequately appointed. As a side note, I love how in Mexico it somehow seems to make sense to put a sink in a corner so the faucet can spray water all over the counter as you swing it back and forth, but I digress. Every room had a full bath, plus a guest bathroom in the hallway. Nice touch. Our balconies spanned from bedroom to living room to bedroom with a jacuzzi tub on the master patio. Another nice touch but we never used it. Our balcony overlooked the kids mushroom pool, other buildings and down to the water. Mostly territorial rather than ocean, but it was still nice. I think the best way to write this review is in Pros and Cons sections, so here goes. Pros: - The vast majority of the staff were helpful, genuinely friendly and engaging. They were eager to make your stay easier, give you a lift in the golf carts and offer an 'hola' as you're walking by. Smiles from almost everyone. - The room was indeed quite comfortable and nicely appointed - The grounds are immaculate. The exterior of the buildings are in great shape, the gardens are bursting with color and incredibly well maintained. It's a tropical paradise. - The pools are clean and well maintained with attentive service from the staff. - For the most part, the restaurants are good and there are many from which to choose. Pitahayas was good twice but got old after our options were dramatically reduced without warning (more on that later). The pool and beach restaurants offer standard bar fare, which is okay but gets tiresome after a week. Most servers were very friendly and attentive, save a couple. - The beach is fantastic, clean, and the attendants are quick to setup umbrellas, chairs and whatever else you need. The service on the beach is attentive. The surf can be treacherous, however. The entire week we were there they flew black flags (do not enter water). It seems more like a liability play for those with ocean experience its possible to enter and enjoy the ocean. Not advisable to let small kids plays in the surf. - The selection and variety of pools and common areas is extensive and beautiful. Infinity pools line the beachfront and many connect under footbridges. Cons: - The mostly friendly staff were also inconsistent with information on several occasions. When I went in to pick up my meal plan wristbands on day two, I was told my wife and both kids had to be with me, too. So, I walked all the way across the property to find my wife who already had her wristband. I went back to explain she had hers and was told my wife was already given my sons wristbands. Also wrong. After a long, unnecessary walk and 30 minutes of arduous conversation, I got my wristbands. Not what Id call an ideal vacation activity. On another occasion, the front desk told us Garisoles opened at 7am. We walk over and up to the restaurant to be told it opens at 7:30, which isnt a huge deal except we had to leave to make a tee time at Cabo del Sol. Annoying. - The all-inclusive option seems like a good approach if you have access to all restaurants your entire stay. Im convinced the booze used in mixed drinks for all-inclusive is different from pay as you go. Keep in mind they include 2% service charge and all servers expect additional tip on top, so its not really all-inclusive. - On Thursday morning the entire Sheraton side of the property was placed off limits to Hacienda del Mar guests. They rented out the entire property and we were limited to one pool and two restaurants. This left us access to about 20% of the previously accessible property and amenities. The only pool left had no chairs available unless you got there to claim a spot by 8am! Mind you, this was never mentioned at the time of booking or purchasing the meal plan. No offer of concessions to account for the change. The same group that rented the entire Sheraton also had a property-facilitated party on Saturday night with incredibly loud music that lasted until 1:30 Sunday morning (the day of our departure). The lack of communication, drastic limiting of amenities and blatant disregard for guests quality of rest was incredibly disappointing and frustrating. - The prices quoted and billing, from initial calls to discuss the meal plan to settling tabs at various restaurants and bars to reconciling the final bill, is incredibly confusing and, in our case, completely erroneous in the resorts favor. We were quoted meal plan pricing in US dollars but when you get your final bill everything is in pesos. They refuse to discuss it in the US dollars originally quoted, which isnt the end of the world but makes it annoying when the daily exchange rate has to be applied. In our case, we did the meal plan for five of the seven total days we were there. Long story short, when we got our final bill it was clear we were double charged more than a few times when the bill was split with friends. We ended up being charged over $2,000 US in charges beyond the meal plan, which was quoted at $1,200. Our room was complimentary because a friend picked up the tab but there were additional room charges and hidden fees tacked on. Absolutely not $2,000 more. Rather than reconcile the bill between three families and a weeks worth of charges, we elected to pay the bill and will choose other resort options for future trips.
