We stayed the weekend,Mark and Helena were very helpful and friendly, they could not do enough for everyone. Room was very clean, with a nice cooked breakfast, also a breakfast bar with a great selection of food available. We will definately go back again. Thanks for the pleasant stay. There is a bus stop very close, which is handy if you have no transport.

    • Welcoming and comfortable in idyllic location.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here. We had a warm welcome from Mark and Helena who were most helpful with suggestions for walks and evening meals. We had Room 2 which was very comfortable and well equipped (including fresh milk) but is next to a busy main main road which was noisy at night. When we mentioned this to Mark he willingly arranged for us to change to a room (3) at the rear of the hotel facing the gardens and river. This room didnt have an en suite but there was a private bathroom next door which met our needs perfectly. There was a large choice for the freshly cooked breakfast and an excellent choice of fruit and cold alternatives. The hotel has a small snug/library with an excellent choice of guide books and maps, most helpful for our first visit to the lakes. There is also an honesty bar with a good choice of wine, beer and spirits. The location is excellent with lovely walks around Grasmere and Rydal Water and easy access to both Ambleside and Grasmere. Highly recommended - we shall return.

    • The lakes are beautiful

We have never been to the lakes before, but we are hooked now. The lodge is in a perfect place as within a short walk you have sights that will blow you away. Staff are great with lots of information and breakfast was more than expected. The gardens are great to sit outside and have a drink with the river flowing at the bottom of a large lawned area. We told staff we will be coming back in the spring. We walked everyday and got a bus back, which stops outside the hotel.

Return visit under new management of this delightful hotel. New management but well maintained standards. Excellent well prepared breakfasts set you up for the day. Lovely snug to cosy up in after a wet walking day with a log fire and a drink. Very friendly helpful hosts.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights and it was lovely. The hosts are friendly and attentive. The hotel is cosy, quiet and perfect for relaxing. Board games are offered in the public rooms. Our room was clean, bright and had everything we needed. The breakfast was the highlight of the show for me. The breakfast room looked out on to the garden and everything was well presented. Buffet breakfast on offer, alongside a cooked breakfast, if you wish. You could order specific items from the cooked breakfast menu, which is convenient, or you could order a full English. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the tourist hot spots, such as Bowness-on-Windermere, or for walking near the Rydal Water. Would highly recommend a vist to the Rydal Caves as well, which are near the hotel and incorporate a lovely walk next to the Rydal water. Would recommend.
