    • Outstanding Ryad - clearly a highlight of my trip

      Reviewed 16 August 2019

It was my second time in Essaouira but my first stay at Ryad Watier. Outstanding Ryad - definitely one of my best experiences related to hospitatity I ever had (not only in Morocco). It's just the combination of several factors that makes Ryad Watier such a great place and a clear go: - First and foremost: The outstanding and uber-friendly team managed by Essaouiran-local Hayat Lavida: Super competent, readily available creating memorable and great moments of hospitality. - The location: Downtown in a quiet side road (rue Ceuta) in the Media: Everything is in walking distance but it's super quiet at day and night. You even hear the sea breeze in the entire ryad making it a great experience. - The building: A tastefully decorated old school that is full of art with many artwork pieces of the local, self-taught artist Taloufate. The building comes with a nice inner courtyard and communal spaces in the ground floor (like the dining room, a library, and the kitchen. Guest rooms are on the upper floors. Great rooftop where breakfast is served and a separate sundeck rooftop. - Large, clean, and tastefully decorated rooms with antiques. Super comfortable and warm beds with nice (aegyptian?) cotton. Clean and nice bathroom - Great (Moroccan) breakfast which is prepared according your order and served on the rooftop. - Outstanding massage (30 EUR/hr). Not on the inexpensive side but still excellent value for money taking into account all factors and ensuring that you will have a memorable and great stay!

    • Wonderful Stay

We stayed at Riad Watier for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute! Our room (the Watier Suite) was spacious and clean with a private balcony that overlooked the courtyard. Service was impeccable! Everyone we came across was helpful and made our stay memorable. We especially enjoyed talking to Gabriel and enjoyed looking at his collection of rocks that he had found on the beaches of Essaouira. He even gave us a small rock to take home! The breakfasts may have been simple - but they were good, and huge! We are so happy for the time we were able to spend here!

Gabriel has decorated the Riad with beautiful and eclectic art. Definitely take some time to explore the different rooms + library. Breakfast on the rooftop is beautiful with the cool ocean breeze. Room was spacious, although a bit damp. Perfect location close to all the action.

    • Highlight of our trip

This riad was spectacular - I couldn't recommend a stay here more highly. Gabriel and Fatima not only facilitated a perfect stay for us, but were absolutely lovely people as well. I would stay here just for their great company and the riad itself is beautiful and charming. The riad is a gorgeous facility with beautifully appointed rooms that have everything you could need - water, amazing Moroccan soap, a safe, a blow dryer, and so on, and I'm sure they would provide anything you wanted that if you couldn't find it. The riad is airy and light, overlooking the ocean and rooftops of Essaouira. My room was the Papamar room and I couldn't have been happier - it was nautical-themed and absolutely charming and perfect for my needs. The rooms are spotless and every detail is attended to. I can't emphasize enough how lovely the staff are - the owner Gabriel is a gem and clearly runs the riad with so much care. We were leaving at 3:30am to catch a plane and he graciously insisted on walking us to our taxi at that hour, waking up just to accompany us. That level of attention, care, and charm is present in every detail. I would return to Essaouira in a heartbeat just to be able to stay here again!

    • Charming!

I was welcomed by the owner with a friendly smile with the offer of a beer or wine! The place has a cozy living room area, a quaint zen area off to the side, a library nook with multilingual choice of books, and the roof top for breakfast and dinner or just to lounge in the sun, watch the sunset and listen to the waves and the seagulls chatter! Breakfast is simple and if you wish to have dinner you will need to let them know in advance-its almost like staying with a friend-in a good way, of course! Friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable large bed and decent bathroom and shower!
