    • Mediocre, faded colonial character, with poor service

A long, slow and tedious check-in, with unfriendly staff who initially claimed we had no reservation (of course, we had). Eventually we reached our room, which was not as clean as we should have expected. However, aircon, shower and Wi-Fi all worked. The hotel still displays some of its colonial character, albeit most has disappeared. Some bathroom updates, especially to clean the vast quantities of sealant round the bath, are urgently needed. The location is on a main road, close to hospitals with inevitably frequent ambulance sirens. A room at the back of the hotel is a definite advantage. The pool is just over the wall from the road, so suffers from traffic noise and fumes. There are only five loungers available at the pool, consequently many guests, with nowhere to sit, just walked away, and there was no pool service. How hard can it be to get some more seats? Service in the restaurants was extremely poor. It took 45 minutes for drinks to appear and even then they were not what we had ordered. Food took a similar time, though when it eventually did arrive it was passable. Breakfast was acceptable: a self-service buffet with some international additions. A mediocre hotel which we would not recommend.

Stayed here on our independent road trip through India. It was a truly lovely place with the bygone era feel to it. To say it is an old property It is well maIntained. The rooms were clean and furnished in heritage style. Ju We only ate in the restaurant for breakfast. In the evening restaurant appeared mostly full of travellers on package deals. Breakfasts were good and varied for local and western tourist tastes. Lovely little pool area for a dip after sightseeing. Safe and pleasant walking outside hotel and small local shops nearby. Restaurants auto rickshaw ride away had some lovely meals. Must mention the lovely staff. All of them reception, restaurant, room services and security they were all amazing, a credit to the Royal Orchid brand.

Have just spent 3 days here at the start of a tour of southern India; a wonderful stately feel and interesting building; very atmospheric of its hey day and worth 5; but sadly the service in the restaurant was not up to scratch so get s marked down.

We shifted to Royal Orchid Metropole after being displaced from the Ayurvedic Center in Mysore and spending a day in a very cramped room for which they charged Rs.5000 for, and we are amazed and delighted to find we get such a lovely spacious room with classy furniture that evokes the days of the Maharaja for less than that cramped room, with tasty breakfast included! The whole team is very well trained and courteous, and they greet you with garlands and waving lamps, a welcome drink and a maharaja hat as a souvenir! The bed was the most comfortable we had slept in, throughout our travels in India! People complain about the bathroom, but I liked the retro-style, and did not find the gizzer a nuiscance. They could make a place to put shampoo, soap, etc so things don't fall between the old-school bathtub and the wall. Rather than the gizzer, it's their delicate plumbing they have to work on. I believe they are undergoing some renovations, and I hope they modernize their plumbing system. The gym is average with rather dated equipments, and the swimming pool is not so large, but I enjoyed them both. We had a dinner in their restaurant, which was pretty good, but not stellar. The dessert was particularly disappointing. We've spent a lot of time in Jaipur where the gulab jamuns and kulfi are first-class, so we may be hard to please! The other issue for me was the very intermittent internet. I had to go to the lobby to get steady connection, and this was an inconvenience they can definitely improve. If they got their internet to a solid state and updated the bathrooms, we can call this place a top hotel with great old world aesthetics and modern amenities.

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved this hotel. Very nice, friendly, homely atmosphere. Rooms large, nice old furniture and very comfortable (we were in room 103 on ground floor). Spacious bathroom; shower a bit weak but that was the only downside and really not a problem. Lovely courtyard restaurant with great food. Nice bar and very friendly bar man; excellent drinks and snacks. Nice pool and garden. Centrally located - about 20 minutes walk from palace. Excellent value for money and we will definitely stay here again if we ever return to Mysore.
