Just stayed here last night. The house & rooms are quaint and in keeping with an old historical house. Very charming. We stayed in the Regency room and it was a good size with a comfortable bed. Lovely tittle touches like fresh flowers, chocolate, water & robes. En suite was a little small but as its an addition to an old house I didnt expect a large salubrious bathroom. However the plumbing was problematic- toilet made a loud noise when flushed meaning you couldnt do that overnight or early in the morning out of consideration to your neighbours, the shower also drained a little slowly - which the polite sign advised would cause it to leak into the downstairs nursery. However I didnt find the ad hoc signs displayed in the bathroom to be as friendly, as Peter has called out in response to other reviews. I have no doubt they are warranted but could be a little more friendly eg apologising if damage has to be paid for. The hot breakfast was good, but again like previous reviews was served to you immediately upon your entrance to the breakfast room. We thought that the 9am listed on the breakfast menu request was the sitting and not the exact time for breakfast. Again like others I feel that having breakfast only available to 9am when on a weekend when on holiday is disappointing - sure you want a bit of a leisurely start to your day

A fine listed building early 17th Century Manor House sensitively furnished and decorated in keeping with a building dating to 1600. The Edwardian single room is comfortable, clean with tv, tea & coffee facilities. Not en-suite but shower room just across the landing. For the price and character recommended, would stay again.

Its hard to know where to start with this B and B. The house itself is beautiful from the outside - adorned with wisteria and full of character. But thats the only really good thing I have to say about the stay. We were given the four poster room, which was full of shabby furniture and dismal soft furnishings. The bed was hard, the duvet was a big lumpen mass, and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The en suite was so small my boyfriend couldnt even fit in it! It was like a toilet on an airplane. The showers spluttered and splattered and the hot water came and went so we were either frozen or burned! We stayed for three nights, and when we came back to the room after the first night the room had not even been serviced - bed unmade, dirty cups etc. Everywhere around the room and the whole building were signs left by the owner - dont do this, make sure you do that, dont do this etc etc. It was like being in school! The cooked breakfast was only offered to us at a set time - with no choice of an alternative. The cold choices in the breakfast room included frozen bread and sticky half used pots of jams and marmite. I think the owner is rather deluded to think that because a property is 500 or 600 years old, the charm of it will be enough to make visitors happy. At those prices, we would have expected far more comfort and care. Do yourself a favour and stay at a Premier Inn.

    • Old style country house

If you want ambience and old style charm this is the place. We were in the Georgian room which had original Georgian panelling. The staircase is delightful with a huge landing and exactly in the character of a small country house. This is no Travelodge or Ibis (excellent though they are); this is a real old style building - that's our style - which makes you think that you are on holiday rather than still at work. We liked many touches: the pot plant of red baby roses and the other fresh flowers. Every small detail seemed to have been thought of. The residents' lounge was large and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and we had a very quiet night despite the proximity of the road (a village street not a main through route). The breakfast was superb (5 stars). Good parking. We specifically chose a room that did not have an en-suite but our private bathroom was not far away and dressing gowns and slippers were provided. If you need dinner there are several restaurants within walking distance, one of which has top notch fine dining. This B&B is a great discovery.

ROTHMANS is the most delightfully dilapidated, obviously loved, beautiful B+B house...decorated in Fawlty Towers crossed "did someone die in here?" style The owner is helpful, but awkward and posh (in all the right ways)...and ALL the notices and instructions hint towards the most brilliant sense of humour. This is the England I miss...personified <3 I will be back at the first opportunity... Hopefully with my Husband... Staying in the beautiful 4 poster bedroom. Thankyou Peter Jan,North London born and bred but now residing in Australia (I actually stayed in June 2017...but the drop down menu didn't like that :) )
