Riu Yucatan Review I have stayed at a few all inclusive resorts and my experience at Riu Yucatan has been the least impressing. Much work needed to be done before I can think about spending my money on this place. Concierge and greeting: Upon arrival we were greeted in a professional matter. Frankie and Alicia gave exceptional service. Room: Two full/queen beds were joined together to give the appearance of a bigger room and bed. It appears all room can accommodate two people; preferably a couple due to privacy. There is no privacy between room and bathroom/shower areas. A curtain at minimum should be installed between both rooms. We also had to request a curtain for the shower door. My daughter had to change in the small closet at times to have some sort of privacy. Logistics for showering and changing were quite an endeavor. Not ideal for my family of 4. The toilet room is very small and it appeared that the exhaust system was not working, smelled the entire time. The ventilation system in the room is set to the bare minimum, very low. We complained and a maintenance worker came to troubleshoot, but said nothing could be done. I know something could have been done since I am employed by an HVAC company. Housekeeping: Very good service, no complaints. Personnel always seemed to have a positive attitude and always greeted us. There are no elevators, which was not a big deal for us but I felt bad for employees as they had to luggage items up and down the stairs under high heat. Amenities: Very few to almost only one, the pool. The pool is dated and needs upgrades. My wife actually cut her foot on one of the loose tiles in the pool. On a separate day, one of my other family members stepped on a tile that had come off. The grout between tiles was dirtier than normal. There are also no waiters. Very inconvenient to always have to walk over to the bar to grab a drink while being in pool areas. On various occasions I heard comments like, The hotel looked much better online. Alcoholic Beverages: Given that this is an all inclusive, I would anticipate the quality of drinks to be low. After sitting at one of the pool bars, we questioned why the quality of alcohol was low. He replied that the Riu Yucatan is a hub for all the nearby Riu resorts that do not have immediate access to the beach. Therefore, guests from other Riu resorts consume at the Yucatan. This results in Yucatan guests sacrificing a better drinking experience due to other Riu guests. Food: Major upset. Food was decent at best. Almost all restaurants were buffet style. I would normally anticipate breakfast and lunch to be buffet style, but dinner should not. The Mexican and Steakhouse were the signature restaurants at this resort, but were very far from extraordinary. We actually had to venture out of the resort for dinner a couple of nights due the lack of variety. All desserts appeared to be frozen and thawed out minutes before placed on your plate or buffet tables. They also tasted as if they were frozen/refrigerated for long periods. It cant all be bad. Chicken at Pepes during lunch was very good. I would suggest to replace the serving utensils at buffets routinely. It was a bit gross to serve food with utensils that have been grabbed many times during a given buffet period. I used a napkin over the utensil at times. Entertainment: The shows were very normal and entertaining. The employees seemed to enjoy performing. The best one is the Michael Jackson show. The Ice Breakers prior to the shows were also very entertaining. As a side note, I notice some of the male employees who are part of the entertainment team seemed to want to touch some of the female guests. They also offered to dance with them and at the end of the song, they pretended to give them a kiss. I witnessed on various occasions, including one time with my wife. She was participating in a game and one of the male employees pretended to give her a massage. Employees need to keep their hands to themselves! Very unprofessional and some sexual harassment training is necessary! This is my very first review. I felt it was necessary because some of reviews for this resort are not accurate. I hope you consider this review when deciding to spend your hard earned money.

Booked the Rui Yucatan to holiday with family ,first time in Mexico . I was a little apprehensive before we traveled having read some of the reviews about the beach, seaweed, food and rooms. Only stayed in one Rui hotel in Cape Verde and wasnt impressed with that one and with it being hurricane/rainy season we arrived at the hotel slightly nervous. The reception area is impressive and check in was smooth . Opened the door to our top floor room and was pleasantly surprised.large modern room with loads of storage ,really comfortable beds and room spotlessly clean. Large free safe and fridge filled with all inclusive drinks. Only personal preference would have been a hot drinks facility instead of the four optics. Spent our days on the beach which was cleaned of the seaweed each morning. No where near as bad as people had made out. The hotel staff did a great job keeping it clean. The sea was very clear and warm ,well impressed. Spent one day around the quiet pool which was very nice but lack of any breeze made it very hot and humid. The two other pools and swim up bar were not really our scene, too busy/noisy for us. All the staff we met were very professional and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The food in the buffet restaurant was well presented and cooked and there was a massive choice each morning and evening . We ate in the Italian ,steakhouse and Asian restaurants. The food and staff were great in the steakhouse, the Asian disappointed in that it was just a buffet . The Italian was my favourite of the three we tried. The drinks at the bars were very good with well made cocktails and named brand spirits available at no extra charge . Certain parts of the hotel are slightly tired but nothing more than you would expect from a hotel open all year round . Overall we had a great first holiday in Mexico ,thank you Riu Yucatan. Would I return yes but earlier in the year when it is slightly less humid . Would certainly recommend this hotel and its sister hotels tequila and Playacar whose facilities you can use.

Great all inclusive stay at Hotel Roy Yucatan in Mexico with Thomas Cook. Great food ( but a lot of deep fried stuff). Rooms were okay, but in need is some updating as bathroom has no privacy from bedroom area. Beach is 1 min away, great wildlife on site and water sports provided with additional payment for scuba/ jet ski / parasailing.
