The hotel isnt clean , has a bad smell and the service is poor. The room I was assigned had a broken window which looked like it was repaired with scotch tape. I decided to change hotels as the front desk agent didnt have anything else available. I saw the hotel shuttle pull up in front and politely asked is they could drop me off at the Hyatt Place less than half a mile away. I was expecting an answer like yes, no problem. The answer received was I dont know its up the the shuttle driver. This was followed by curse words from a guy who was hanging out talking to the front desk agent. The same guy was there talking to her when I checked in and half an hour later when I left. I assume it is either her friend or a hotel worker. Overall, terrible experience. I have stayed at this property in the pst, maybe 4 to 5 years ago and it was always good. It seems to have turned bad. Im a Marriott Titanium elite and expected more from a Marriott property. I recommend avoiding this hotel. I moved to the nearby Hyatt Place OHare which was great and also had a lower rate. I would highly recommend the Hyatt Place and recommend you avoid the Residence Inn.

I am a regular business traveller.Whenever I come to Chicago I always stay in this hotel. But trust me, there is a drastic change in everything. First and foremost is the hotel staff. Except for few, most of the receptionist are very rude. Nowdays they don't even greet. Kitchen and cleaning staff is super awesome. Second thing is breakfast. If you are vegetarian then forget about a good breakfast here. The only good things which was done in past 3 years is smart TV in the rooms.

Partially updated hotel. The room is large and spacious. Parts of it seem updated well other parts of the room seemed outdated, like the bathroom and kitchen cabinetry and the paint on the walls. The bed was comfortable. It was amazing to be able to take the two minute walk over to the Allstate Arena for the concert we were attending. The convenience alone makes this worthwhile

    • Put in Room with No AC During Heat Wave

      Reviewed 23 July 2019

My husband and I arrived late after a long day of canceled and delayed flights. After waiting nearly 40 minutes for the hotels airport shuttle we finally made it to the hotel. We arrived at check-in and the staff kept asking and talking about Room 102, but not really saying anything outright about it. This happened to be the room we were put in. We got to our room, opened the door and were hit with the heat - the thermostat was reading 80. At first we just thought they didnt have the AC running in the empty room, so we attempted to turn it on. After several minutes and still no AC we called the front desk to ask them about it. They didnt seem shocked at all, quickly said they had no other rooms and they could bring us a couple of fans. We quickly looked up if there were any other hotels near us, but it was past midnight at this point, we had been up since 4am and we were too exhausted to spend much time researching or driving to a new location. So they brought the fans in - and ever-so-helpfully suggested we open the windows. It was still over 80 outside and super humid - that wasnt going to help. At this point we were becoming aware they knew about the AC issue previous to us being put in the room. We set up the fans and tried to go to sleep (on the crappy, lumpy old mattress), but the temperature never dropped below 79 all night, the fans kept tipping over and waking us up - needless to say, we didnt sleep much. In the morning we asked to talk to a manager- conveniently none seemed to be available. We asked for a refund and were given a partial credit. We were able to verify that, yes, they were aware of the broken AC when they put us in that room, but they had no other options. Yes, they had another option - what they should have done when they realized they didnt have enough rooms with functioning AC in a heat wave for their guests with reservations is they should have found us an room in an alternate hotel and transported us to that hotel. That is the right thing to have done. I have MS and my diseases symptoms are triggered by the heat - so what is a crappy situation for anyone could have quickly turned into an outright dangerous situation for me. It was reckless for them to have KNOWINGLY put their guests who had reservations in such a situation. We emailed the Assistant GM of the hotel and have still heard nothing back. In addition to the AC issue: Airport shuttle takes forever Beds were very uncomfortable and need to be replaced Trash was found in the room (24 can beer box found in the closet) Lamp was missing bulb Breakfast area super crowded/ long lines and not great selection of food Plus side: They had free soda in the machine at breakfast and most of the employees seemed kind and helpful
