    • Good Location Near Fenway Park

My spouse and I stayed at the Residence Inn Back Bay Fenway for 3 nights on an extended weekend in late November 2019. We booked our stay online using the Marriott website. Although we hold Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status and might have qualified for a complimentary upgrade, we wanted to be sure that we received a suite, so we booked one in advance. Unfortunately, we received Room 201, which offered us a terribly dark view of a sort of service alleyway off of Burlington Avenue. (We do not recommend any room numbers ending in -01 since they share this same awful view.) The Residence Inn Back Bay Fenway is located where its name implies: in the Back Bay just a few blocks from Fenway Park. Some rooms even offer a view of the ballpark if you pay for that privilege; however, the rooftop bar/lounge offers similar views for free. The hotel is located on busy Brookline Avenue, across the street from a Marshalls (discount store), casual restaurants (including Bar Louie [which provides room service for the hotel], Yard House, and Wahlburgers [see our separate reviews on the latter two]), and fast casual restaurants (including Chipotle, Sweetgreen, Saloniki, and Starbucks). A Target store and other restaurants are located within a 2-block walk, as is a Regal Cinema with 10+ screens. The Residence Inn offers a complimentary breakfast daily (both hot and cold options), business center, pantry (store) area, indoor swimming pool, indoor/outdoor rooftop bar/lounge, fitness center, complimentary internet, and meeting/event space. The hotel offers valet parking, although it is pricy at $55 per day. Rooms are available in studio, one-, two-, and four-bedroom suites. Our one-bedroom suite had a combination kitchen/living room with full-size fridge, two-burner stove (no oven), microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and pots, pans, plates, and utensils. A two-person table divided the kitchen area from the cozy living room space, which contained a sofa, side table, and TV. The snug bedroom (which could be closed off by a door) held a king-size bed with a nightstand on each side, second television, and closet. The bathroom was accessible from the bedroom, and the sink/vanity area was kind of a part of the bedroom (across from the closet) rather than being in the room that held the toilet and combination bathtub/shower. We did not care for the bedroom/bathroom layout, because if one of us needed to use the sink/vanity while the other person was sleeping, the light and sound would wake them up because there was no door separating this area from the bedroom proper. (Rest assured, though, that the toilet and bathtub/shower were in their own room separated by a door.) The hotel provides basic toiletries like soap, shampoo, and conditioner. We liked the location of the Residence Inn Back Bay Fenway, but we hated the gloomy and dreary view from our assigned room.

All of our needs were met. The first night we were there the room was very hot but as soon as we reported it to staff the issue was taken care of. The staff even checked with us the next day to make sure the room was still comfortable. What a relief as we were visiting Boston so my son could be seen at Boston Childrens. It was a stressful time for us but this hotel was not only in a perfect location for the hospital and to close other tourist places but it honestly felt like home away from home for our family. At check in the staff told us all of the Fenway views were booked but she gave us a wonderful view which we could clearly see Fenway - a huge plus for my kids! The breakfast was good and had lots of choices. That was nice since we were there for several days and didnt want the same thing every morning. Theres lots of restaurants within walking distance as well as a Target to grab any items you didnt bring from home. The roof bar was closed the whole time we were there which was a bummer since the weather was in the 50s/40s and would have been a nice experience to see the views. We need to return to Boston in a few weeks so my son can have more test at the childrens hospital. We are planning on staying at this hotel again. Our only complaint is the free internet is horribly slow!

    • Great Location

Never been on this end of Boston overnight but the experience was amazing for the most part because of its location, great rooms and very professional and likeable staff. One of the reasons we were there was because of its proximity to the group of hospitals in that area. But there are also some good shopping and restaurants venues nearby. And if you plan on going to Fenway Park, you can easily walk to the game. A 5 star rating doesn't is more than well deserved.

Second time staying here....hotel is in a great location, right across the street from Fenway Park. We were here for the weekend and we never had to leave the 4-5 block radius around the hotel. Close to great restaurants and bars. The rooms are very spacious and modern and the breakfast was excellent! The staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the gentlemen behind the front desk, when we asked for a recommendation for a good place for a pastry or ice cream, walked us out to the front door and pointed us specifically in the right direction, showing us landmarks and such to look for when trying to locate the places. Would definitely stay here again when coming to Boston!

Checking in with Julio was so easy and he was so nice! He even remembered my name 3 days later! Loved the studio, it was just enough for what we needed - sleep. Breakfast was delicious. Easy walk to the T station. We will be back!
