    • Excellent

      Reviewed 01 October 2019

Lived in this hotel in September. This is the best hotel in this region - it is wonderfully located and unique 5star hotel here. There is a heated pool on the roof. The room has CARITA cosmetics. The atmosphere of Relais and Chateau is very felt. But the main impression of the weekend at this hotel was visit the chef's table in the kitchen. It was a unique experience! The chef himself cooked and crushed for us his own cooked dishes. The chef is the eminent star of the hotel - he has the star of Michelin. Christophe Schmitt you are the best.

    • Poor service and badly cooked main course Christmas Day meal

      Reviewed 29 December 2018

I have emailed the restaurant who have not responded, similar experience to other customers who have commented here. We are local people and visited several times over the years. For our Christmas Day meal we did not get the aperitif despite asking. Seated at a noisy table between two groups it was confrontational to move to a vacant quiet table. Water bottle taken away and had to ask twice to be replaced. Needed to ask for the wine list twice. None of the table candles or restaurant candles were lit for a special day meal - Sloppy. Cutlery not polished and dirty. Food had problems the roll for the Saint Jacques was dry and not edible all other guests also left it. The main course, Capon was tough, dry, hard to cut into and poorly presented. We also had to stand in a long confrontational queue to pay competing with other waiters who wanted to use the same till. It was like we were in a cafeteria not a Michelin star restaurant.... Before the Michelin star the waiting on staff were younger, students and friendly a very enjoyable experience. However, the current waiters are older men, poor skills, not as friendly. We are feeling disappointed for our Christmas Day meal. We visited Christmas 2016 and had much better food and service. I hope management listen and return my email. The restaurant is not worthy of Michelin star at present it used to be a much better experience. Needs to improve both food quality and especially the waiting staff, as service is very poor, badly organised and to be honest, not a pleasant dining experience. A real shame as this restaurant used to be wonderful.

    • Wedding Anniversary

      Reviewed 10 November 2018

What a lovely surprise. When I found this hotel on-line, after looking for ages for somewhere to spend just one night for our wedding anniversary, it looked just the sort of place I was looking for. Luxury combined with a small friendly atmosphere. Half board was on offer at a very reasonable price for the night we wanted, so I went for this. We arrived a little early, but the person on reception couldn't have been more pleasant and despite our best efforts to speak French, soon started talking to us in perfect English! she took all our details and then offered us a complimentary drink whilst we waited for our room to be finished. She also took us on a mini tour of the hotel, which included the perfect tiny private beach! The room itself was lovely, with a great view over the lagoon from the private balcony. My only criticism was the lack of power points to charge phones etc and the music centre/alarm clock would only dock with iPhone (I am an android person). The mini bar was well stocked, there was a Nesspresso coffee machine and the bathroom was great with a nice selection of products. It wasn't until I was reading the literature that I realised the restaurant at the hotel was a one Michelin star establishment and it lived up to that rating - the Gin & Tonic was to die for! Breakfast was everything we needed, hot and cold selections. It was a shame that the weather wasn't that good while we were there as we couldn't use the lovely rooftop pool, which apparently is heated to 30 degrees all year round). All in all, not cheap, but great value for money.

    • Beautiful spot

      Reviewed 15 October 2018

Positives: We loved our balcony, the restaurant, all the conceirges, bartenders, and waiters, and M'aitre D. There were all charming and accommodating. We even enjoyed the outside pool,. The parking was very convenient. (We didn't mind bringing our own luggage in.) Overall the place was atrractively laid out - particularly the driveway over over the canal. It was too cold and windy to try out the beach and shuttle boat. We didn't notice the fireplace. Negatives: The spa was already booked during our 3 night stay. No big deal, it was overpriced anyway - especially compared to a massage would could get on a beach in Barcelona or Stiges. The exercise room was paltry. The heater for the upstairs pool wasn't working. I could have given it four stars because of those negatives and the serious cost of the room. However, the restaurant was superb (well, some things were fantasic, some things not as much) and our sunsets with the mountains and a glimpse of the sea was perfectly romantic. The staff couldn't have been better (except I think the sommelier snubbed us after our first night).

    • Disappointing, not 5 Star.

      Reviewed 22 September 2018

I made the mistake of not checking reviews before booking! My wife and I had stayed in a real 5 Star for the previous two nights in Spain. Incomparable. On arriving here the receptionist asked us if we wanted help with our bags in such a way that it was evident that we were giving her a problem if we did! Clearly they do not employ porters. Breakfast is poor and the level of service a shambles. 3 times I had to ask for coffee. The second morning I knew to ask for it hot as it was cold on the first day. It arrived tepid, without milk!!! Why dont they have a Nespresso machine or similar?? Breakfast choice very poor for a 5 Star hotel. No chef to cook an omelette etc, just cold scrambled eggs available and no hot plates. Tepid water also provided for tea. Clearly they dont know or dont care that tea is made with boiling water!! Absolutely the worst breakfast weve ever experienced in a five star hotel. Management need to visit Hotel de la Citee in Carcassonne and see for themselves what comprises a quality breakfast in a 5 Star Hotel. We had paid for half board because their LAlmandine restaurant had a Michelin star. After the first night we went back hesitantly as we were very disappointed. Our table dhote menu was very restricted. The only starter was ceviche and it was shockingly tough. Unchewable. A disgrace for any restaurant but especially one with a star. Main courses were average, the dessert was the star. Admittedly the second night was much better, but service was poor, something that generally seems to be an issue with this hotel. Saint Cyprien Plage is lovely with a fabulous beach. Just dont use this hotel. Not worth the money.
