The ancient Roman amphiteatre is worthwhile a trip out of Barcelona. You can go by train in an hour and 30 minutes- a Nice ride along the coast. The amphiteatre can be reached in 10 minutes from the station and is lovely to see as it is so well preserved. There are even frescoes from ancient times see my pictures. No need to take an organised tour as all is well explained in English.

All executions in Tarragona are well made and valued to visit. I recommend to purchase the combiticket for 4 really interesting spots. This site is very nice but small... in combination I can recommend

    • Amazing site, but beware of pickpockets.

Visited with a toddler. As we were standing at the viewpoint (before the ticket office), a middle-aged woman attempted to pickpocket my backpack. Luckily, the design meant that I felt and heard her very quickly. 2 minutes later, I saw her again trying to pick another woman's handbag (unsuccessfully). She was carrying a phone, pretending to take photos, and a tourist map. She quickly left the area when she realised she'd been spotted. That said, the Amphitheatre was amazing! We got combined tickets from the office (no cash, cards only) which included 3 other Roman attractions. The views were brilliant, and being able to wander over the ancient structures was a great experience. Likewise, the remains of the Visigoth church on the arena floor was a real slice through history.

A great bit of history complete with speakers and a stage as they were using the site in the forthcoming Tarragona festival, The site was so good the Christians later built a church in the middle of building where so many of them had died in the ring!

Outstanding and easy to view from different angles. Didnt go in as had limited time but you could see most of it from outside.
