    • Unlike Taj

Taj is Taj-we ofter say. This old Radisson recently taken over by Taj is certainly unlike Taj experience. Its not a different than any other star hotel. Taj Hotel & Convention centre has 239 rooms but average lobby, below expectation rooms and basic bathroom. I stayed at # 107 and was disappointed with bathrooms fittings fixtures window view and overall ambience. Another nonscoring point bland food- Popular for weddings and convention expectations for an experience being Taj was it fulfilled. Staff is courteous and warm but still traditional Taj culture is missing. The overall property of not a great view particularly my room window view was poor certainly Taj brand of grace , aristocracy and traditions is to be nurtured here.

The hotel is very comfortable and very beautifully built. Warm traditional welcome and beautiful music in the lobby by the Santour player. The luggage carriers are very kind and efficient. Lovely room, big bathroom. We had both great and disappointing experiences with the crew. The gastronomic restaurant, Daawat-e-Nawab, is fantastic, so is the Palato. Great breakfast with a special mention also to Rahul, the chef in charge of the bakery/pastry : I told him his croissants and pains au chocolat tasted exactly like in France, which is extremely rare abroad. The chef in charge of the main meals is very professional and attentive too. We only had problems at the bar and at the reception. The bar is nicely built but with no atmosphere at all, expensive prices and a very mediocre service. I asked for an Irish Coffee ; when I saw that the bartender had to call a colleague to check the recipe, I politely suggested to him that I could order something else. He insisted to make it and I got a cold drink, shaken with ice, which had nothing to do with a classic hot Irish Coffee. Finally, I changed my order for a bad and expensive Indian whisky before leaving this terrible bar. I know India has not a strong bar culture, because of its puritan relationship with alcohol, but if they want to attract international tourists, they have to get better on that, especially in five star hotels. For instance, Republic Day is a dry day and you cannot have a drink at your hotel bar... The reception started by giving us the wrong passport by mistake and woke us up very early next morning to exchange it, without any apology. Then, when I asked whether it was possible to ask for non-spicy alternatives at the gastronomic restaurant they looked down on e as if it was a ridiculous question... It wasn't, as Asif and the cooking team made a lot of efforts to avoid chilly in our meal. I asked for a extra towel at the reception desk and I had to ask for it again 24 hours later to finally get it. I tried to print a document from their online desk, and the unfortunate young employee had to fight for nearly an hour to help me print it : the printer didn't work and I was asked to send the document to several email addresses at the reception, which I wasn't particularly comfortable about... At the check out, when I complained about all the problems I had at the reception, the man just told me a very disengaged and automatic apology to get rid of me. That's too bad because all those bad points won't motivate me to necessarily motivate me to recommend this hotel.

This hotel is quite clean and has the service mind for travellers. The room is nice, the restaurant is good, and the fitness room is perfect. One of the pro of this hotel is location. It is closed to Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. I recommend this hotel for couple, family, or group.
