    • Great second stay

This was our second visit to Pura Vida and again we had a very enjoyable stay. This time we stayed in one of the garden rooms and the room as perfect. The facilities are good, an ideal breakfast (with an awesome view) and the dinner meals were really good. Definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting this area. The staff were great and in particular MJ (I think that is her name and apologies if I have written it incorrectly). Thank you for your great service at our dinners!

We chose this resort as our venue for our tropical wedding. We loved everything about the resort: our room, the food, daily free breakfast, and the excellent service we received from the staff. The gardens in the resort are well manicured. Front desk was very helpful. The owner and his wife are so friendly and accommodating to our needs. We also absolutely loved the convenience of their gymnasium. Overall, we recommend this hotel and will stay here again when we visit Dumaguete.

    • Great Accommodation and Wonderful Staff

I just returned from a week staying here. We were a group of 12 split up into to couples/friends sharing 2 people to a room. We stayed in the Standard rooms which are great bamboo 'houses' located towards the back of the resort. Each 'house' had a large balcony with day bed, air conditioning, comfortable beds, and a walk-in bathroom/wardrobe with a warm water shower. Everything was very comfortable, however the air-conditioning is a little noisy as they're just window units. But a bit of white-noise through-out the evening didn't really bother me, and it did it's job of keeping the room cool! The bathroom is open aired to the main room, but that wasn't really a problem for me and my room-mate. Housekeeping came every day whilst we were diving and made the place beautiful again. Each room has a jug of water which is replenished each day or on request, it's nice not too see bottles of water! There's also a kettle and tea and coffee plus a small mini bar, however didn't use that, but seems well equipped. There wasn't much breeze in the courtyard outside the bamboo houses, but just head down to the restaurant/bar for a great sea-breeze. Wi-fi is available through-out the whole resort, including the room. The restaurant staff are amazing and within the first day they all knew our names, which room we were staying with and always greeted us with a smile. As a large group they had a reserved table for us the whole time. The dinner/lunch menu has a large variety of local and international/western food and I couldn't really complain about the quality and serving size of the meals! All food and drink is affordably priced, and considering it's a beach front resort, you couldn't ask for better prices! The only thing that wasn't so pleasant is that there's no designated smoking area, and as a group of non-smokers eating and drinking amoungst others that do smoke is not so nice. I'd just recommend to the restaurant to create smoking and non-smoking areas. Every morning there is a buffet which varies daily and includes western and local breakfast; from hash browns, to fried rice, bacon, eggs benedict, dumplings, savoury mince etc. There's always pancakes and an omelette station where you can choose eggs anyway. Also cereal, toast, fruit, juice, tea and coffee is also available everyday. Plenty to fuel up on for a day of diving! The on-site spa is also fantastic! I went for a Signature Massage one afternoon and couldn't fault it. The spa rooms are quiet, cool and clean with the therapist doing her job beautifully! Was also offered Ginger tea afterwards which was wonderful to finish up with. The grounds are kept immaculate! The maintenance and ground keepers crew keep a tight ship even though you may not even notice them! Every day the grass was cleared of fallen leaves and flowers, even the hedges were trimmed! Thanks to all the staff both front, and back of house!

    • Overall fine with room for improvement!

I have to agree with a recent review I read..if you charge 4 star prices you need 4 star service. Overall a pleasant experience however there is room for improvement. After all its all the small things over time which adds up. I do not agree with the "golden sands" description on TripAdvisor. The sand is blackish, far cry from golden. This is because its a volcanic island. We knew this in advance so didn't bother us & we enjoyed our swim, but you'd be bitterly disappointed if you were expecting golden sands. Room/bathroom - comfy clean room. Aircon was good. Bathroom was a bit dingy, shower pressure was poor and water temp was not high enough. I love a good shower and this one was awful. Spa - enjoyed our massages. Lovely staff and setting. One slight hiccup was the prices in the room were diff to spa. Brought it to the reception staffs attention, they just excused it as a mistake. This wasn't our fault and the correct thing to do would be to offer the price we had thought we had reserved at, especially as I showed them the price discrepancies. The staff lacked the necessary skills and training to deal with such a simple issue/situation. Beach - whilst I understand & appreciate that it's a public beach, given its a beach front location, the hotel should have a vested interest in keeping this clean. The previous hotel we stayed at was cleaned every eve after the tide went out and they showed such an interest in the cleanliness of the beach. Here it was evident that they didn't care. One evening there was a dead dog/pig washed up and it just lay there, it was a sight one would easily not forget and unfortunately associate with our stay here. Restaurant - we ate here and whilst the food was fine (wouldn't wow you) , it wasn't the best prices for Philippines. If you get a chance to dine away I'd recommend. Breakfast was only OK, def could improve with choice and selection. Pool/garden - clean and very well maintained.

Person manning your globe number is not responsive I have sent several sms requesting wedding packages to 09173202384 but no response. My number is +63 995 584 3510. Worst is SHE talks in Cebuano. She should not assume that the other party calling speaks cebuano. This is bad etiquette.
