    • Worn out and extremely noisy.

      We booked because an offer on booking.com. Big mistake. When we arrived, there was the music to the top and drunk people singing kareoke so loud. The room wasn't ready and we waited 40minutes. When we entered the room, everything was wet and there was and horrible smell of chemicals and was unbearable to be in the room. You could see the "clean" in a rush because the wc was still dirty and there were rests of food on the table. The room was super worn out and destroyed and when we showered, all the water got into the room. The rest of the stay was a noisy nightmare. Drunk people continued singing all day and you could hear kids screaming and slamming doors all the time. I even saw a kid kicking the walls and his father not doing anything about it. Nightmare!!!

      The hotel is promoted as 4 stars. But we found that it was all a little outdated and rundown. The beds were small, the pool towels had a typical odour, the food was nothing special. Except for the restaurant manager the staff was also unattentive. So wouldn't recommend staying here.

      The room is outdated, unkept, and there was no phone. The bathroom could use a little Clorox and better decor. I haven't tried the food yet. Hopefully the breakfast is good and can makeup for the crappy room.

      Long short story: I had a reservation for a weekend, our idea was to go to a tour however the weather was very bad and I got a call from the tour to cancelling my tour. Then I call to the hotel in order to see the possibility to reschedule or cancel my reservation, I knew it was a bit late for it however it was worthy to check, however the service was totally unuseful and address me to booking.com, I have been wasting my time back & forth from the Hotel to Booking.com and at the end, I stay waiting at home for an answer. I was waiting very late and got not answer from neither, so I decided to wait for the next day. Next day, I got email with non-show message, the hotel even knowing about my request, just proceed to cancel my reservation and bill the whole rate. I have call both (hotel and booking), the hotel just said they can not do anything (thanks for nothing) and booking was also not so much helpful; booking tried to talk with the hotel, never answer, sent an email and reply a day after (after billing me the reserve), I loss everything the reservation, the money and no chance to spend the rest of the nights that I have booked, nothing; Booking continue trying to contacting with Puerto Azul, however they get a reply just saying no, few days after. So sad, very disappointing, zero help with the customer oriented, totally demotivated, I was expecting a top treatment from the hotel, but it was a shame.

      Im not one to waste time writing reviews, and this is my first, but our visit for one night to Puerto Azul in Puntarenas was pretty bad. We had absolutely horrible service at the pool bar. It was apparent they intentionally gave this gringo blatently bad service. As I sat at the bar as the only customer waiting for a drink I saw the restaurant staff drinking in plain sight. I get drinking while working a crappy job with no customers, but try to be a little covert about it. Duck behind a wall and pound one down, but whatever. No big deal. The worst part of our stay was our room. They upgraded us to a 2 bedroom apartment. It seemed nice when we dropped the luggage off, but we left immediately. When we came back for the night to sleep, the place smelled awful. My sense of smell isnt very good, but this place smelled foul. I work construction and often backpack so I am not one to complain about staying in any hotel with a real bed. This place smelled foul. This was a crappy stain on an otherwise wonderful trip to Costa Rica. Take this review for what its worth. Just one guys opinion.
