    • Lunch, and a local dram

      Reviewed 06 August 2019

Always stop by here when in town. A lovely place for lunch and a wee local dram. I have taken many groups in my coach to here. All of which have been extremely impressed. Having been myself, I can also say that this is THE bar to visit whilst in Aberlour. The drams on offer are varied, but carefully selected, meaning that you will always get a top class dram at a reasonable price. If you're in the area, you must visit here for a pitstop. Soft drinks also on offer for the designated drivers amongst us :)

On my 3 days in Aberlour, I had two visits to this great howf. Its not the biggest bar, but it is really popular. I didnt get food, but the place was rammed and many unfortunate folk were turned away. TOP TIP: Book early... I was squeezed onto a stool at the end of the bar, which was fine. A few beers and malts were bang on. The malt range is extensive with the local Glenfarclas proudly displayed over many years. Ill be back to this classy town and fantastic area. The Mast Tun will be booked for food.

    • Excellent starter and don't bother asking for a glass of water

We chose this restaurant as it came so highly recommended and the starters were indeed delicious. My husband and son's haggis was cooked perfectly and my rocket and blue cheese salad was perfect in its size, simplicity and flavour. However for the main meal I chose a Brie and beetroot tart which I thought would be interesting. It wasn't. The 'beetroot' was a blob of apple/ beetroot? sweet jam in the centre of a very salted Brie in pastry. Not exciting at all. My husband was equally unimpressed with his chicken main course. After such fabulous starters they were a bit of a let down . The pub concentrated on matching a whisky with each course and they appeared to be very unimpressed when we asked for a jug of water. So impressed that they never brought one over.

    • Ignore the haters this place is great!

I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. We went for my mum's birthday and the waiting staff surprised her with a small bottle of prosecco. It made her night! The food was delicious and piping hot. The whisky selection is unreal and the staff are wonderful. We will definitely be back, thank you to the Mash Tun team!
