    • Comfortable, Quiet Resort

      We spent a week at Playacar Palace. We had a great time and found the service to be friendly and fast. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. There are a handful of dining options to give you variety, but we loved the room service. I especially liked that they had non-traditional breakfast items and breakfast options from a variety of cultures. We used some of our resort credit for excursions and a romantic beach dinner. We were in the off-season, but we found things to be relaxed and quiet. It was also nice that we were able to visit other Palace properties. Things to take into consideration: - Your resort credit looks like it covers a lot at first glance, but it's pretty limited. We ended up spending an extra $1,000 on excursions that we couldn't use resort credit for. This isn't a problem, but it is something to be aware of when resorts offer that enticing "resort credit." It's not all that useful if you want to do things other than the spa. We have a third of it left over. - Excursion scheduling is a little painful. Some excursion companies only go to a location one day per week. If you have very specific ideas of what you want to do, you may find this challenging. - The resort activity planners may tell you what to bring on your excursions, but they often don't know all of the details. We ran into this a couple of times. If you know the company who will be taking you on an excursion, do some independent research. In some areas, sunscreen (even biodegradable) is not permitted - wish I had known because I would have dressed differently! In some places, towels are provided - in others, no. Not knowing these things makes it hard to pack your day bag lightly! - The activity planners don't well-prepare you for how long your excursion might be! We were told we'd be back at the hotel by mid-afternoon one day and it was after 8:00 when we returned. Ask more questions. - There doesn't seem to be a way to book excursions ahead of your trip, which means some things may be fully booked. Speak with activity planners right away to ensure your schedule works. - Excursions leave anywhere from 7:30 - 8:00 am. Be prepared for some early mornings! - Iced Tea is weirdly hard to get. I'm not sure why - they're great at everything else! - Many, many items on their restaurant menus are seafood. If you can't eat seafood, you'll be limited by what is available. We had to forgo some dining experiences because there was no alternative to seafood. - Copal incense is used heavily in the resort. It smells like frankincense. If you are sensitive to this scent, you may want to avoid the Palace properties. In all, it was a good place to visit and we'll definitely consider if we return to this area.

      Traveled with my wife and a few other couples for a quick getaway. There is a lot of good things about this all-inclusive but there are definitely some negatives that will most likely keep us from being repeat guests. The Positives - THE SERVICE! Everyone who works on site is absolutely amazing. Always there to help. Special shout out to Israel, Herlin and Jessika - these 3 especially did everything they could to make our trip amazing. The room service was on point too. - Breakfast - dining wise, highlight of the day. Eating by the ocean, delicious food and Israel there to take great care of us. Rita was amazing as well, perfect omelet! - Pool Service/Food - Pool food was the best. Didn't matter whether it was pizza, nachos, tacos, all of it was fantastic. The drinks were great. And again, the service was spectacular - Herlin and Jessika took great care of us. - The Room - Comfortable, clean, quiet, great views, refrigerator worked. - Location - just a short walk from downtown Playa del Carmen, lots of great shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. The Negatives - "Resort Credits" - so we stayed 5 nights and with that received $1500 in resort credits to spend on the spa, or golf, etc. Except every time you used any of those resort credits you were assessed a "Service Fee" of 16%. We ended up using nearly 80% of our resort credits (which they will allow you to roll over for one year) but in doing so it cost me an additional $600 in service fees. Yes you read that correctly. So I asked, does the service fee go to the spa masseuse, or the golf pro, or the server/chef kind of like a tip? Nope. Just goes to the hotel. Just pure profit. - Exchange your currency elsewhere - their rate to the american dollar was lower than the airport in Cancun. - The Food - like I said, breakfast and pool food, can't go wrong. It was great. Everything else? Not so hot. The Brazilian Steak house - food was not good, at all. Room service food - other than breakfast, not so hot. And you can't request the amazing tacos or pizza that they have by the pool. Momo wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. The Romantic Dinner option (which uses $400 resort credits!) was the worst meal we had the entire trip. It was rough. Didn't even try the Italian place, they have a requirement for men to wear pants, and well its Mexico and hot and I'm on vacation so not wearing trousers sorry. - The Pool - so they were planting palms while we were there, so the pool was not the cleanest throughout the day. And the birds, they have a bird problem. You turn your head for one second and the birds are on your snacks. - The Golf - Resort credits were available to play the Moon Palace in Cancun. Course is in decent condition at best. Sand traps were in real bad shape. No beverage cart service, but there is a snack bar on like the 4th or 5th hole were you can get a small 5oz beverage. Oh, and we had to play the front 9 twice. The back 9 was not available?! Pro shop was weak. They paired us up with someone we did not know without asking. I could go on. - The Spa - it was a nice experience, but they rushed us through. Would have enjoyed a moment to relax in the aqua massage area or a minute to shower, etc. Not an option. - Concierge Level - I'm not sure what the upgrade got us. Tried the lavender aromatic pillows but they were musty. Had to call for turn down service or they would forget. All in all, we had a good time for sure. Absolutely loved all of the wonderful people who work there. But this is our 5th or 6th all-inclusive and by far not at the top of the list. Just felt like we got shorted a little with the resort credits, golf, spa and dining.

      The resort is beautiful and service is great. Convienent to ferry to go to Cozemel. Resturaunts are beautiful and food is fantastice. Everything is super clean and rooms are very comfortable modern and clean. TIf I could I would mention all the staff but is not possible. But Mr Rubio you have a wonderful team and a wonderful resort. I have to mention these respectively as they have made us fell very special and like family. Diamond concierge Tania (she is amazing and kind and goes above and beyond) Paola (always there for us when Tania is off) Abigail Montoro (quest Services) always so helpful and kind Eder (pool concierge) an amazing person..he goes above and beyond.       First time in Mexico so nothing to compare hotel to others in area but found the rooms well equipped with hair dryer & straighteners, toiletries and drinks. Beds were very comfortable with great air conditioning & small balcony. Didnt have a view on first week of holiday but managed to get a move on the second week of our holiday which made a huge difference. The food was good although on the second week of our holiday (after Mexicos spring break) the evening meals in European restaurant was Mexican menu only (didnt enjoy anything on menu) The pool is beautiful with easy access to beach and no fights to get a sun lounger in morning. What made this hotel stand out was the amazing staff .. I can not fault anyone. Every member of staff that we came across couldnt help us enough. I have to mention Gaby & Josephina ! They made my holiday and it was such a pleasure meeting them .. I will be back to playacar just to see them again !

      A great experience at playacar palace! This was our first time visiting as honeymooners and we wanted to share our experience with you. Positives The food - is amazing and the best all inclusive we have ever been to. The momo restaurant is really good food and the italian we also rated but remember to bring trousers for men! Room service - has been brilliant, lots of choice and is delivered with a smile. Cleanliness - the rooms are immaculate and cleaned every day with fresh towels. The rooms - are big and comfortable with no problems at all. The spa jacuzzi bath is also great!! The pool bar - is also good and offers a great range of pool snacks, I recommend the pizzas!! The pool area - the pool is clean, and you also have waiter service all day which is good but can be quite slow if you dont tip. You can get fresh towels every day. The gym - for those who workout, it's a great gym. The spa - now this was an amazing experience and is a must!! We had a citrus massage and it was top notch! The entertainment - they have a fantastic saxophone guy who plays but this is earlier on in the night so most people miss him as people are still dining. Negatives Check in - was good but they put us in a room which overlooked air conditioning units knowing we were honeymooners. They try to get you to upgrade at a high cost but we didnt. They did end up moving us after a couple of days into a room with a partial sea view, but this was only because we complained a couple of times. The manager was good but the lady on reception didnt really want to help us. The food - slight disappointment on the food choice in the evening as we didnt get an option this week for the buffet as it's been a Mexican theme all week so you have to go to one of the other al a carte restaurants but when you have been to them all week it can get slightly repetitive. The entertainment - around the pool area could be better and the entertainment in the evening could also be better as everything seems to stop at 10pm. Now and again theres a show in the Luna lounge. Just as we was leaving they had a few visits from the moon palace hotel and around 200 students turned up and took over the pool, beach etc. The pool area isnt huge so your peace and quiet was shattered. I dont think this should have been allowed every day and glad we went when we did as I believe it ended up being over 4/5 days. All in all the hotel was great and we would visit again.
