    • A little gem in the heart of South Beach

      Reviewed 28 September 2019

I booked this hotel as it is a favourite property of the tour operator that I work for in the UK, and it was the perfect oasis of tranquility for my partner and I during our 5 night post-cruise stay in South Beach. Having arrived from our cruise ship at just before 11am, I was delighted to find that our room was already available for us so we didn't have to kill time before settling in. Excellent service! Our pool view room was an ideal size with a massive king sized bed that felt like you were sleeping on clouds (mattress might be too soft for some, but they helpfully left a note advising that a harder mattress could be provided upon request at reception). The bathroom was adequate with a large shower, and there was a TV with cable channels - no TV guide or listings though. The staff at this hotel were all incredibly attentive and friendly. Everytime we walked through the lobby, the reception staff would greet us with a friendly smile and a welcome that made us feel right at home. The staff at the pool bar/Mermaid bistro were also sunny and happy to help, and this all added to the boutique and relaxed vibe that the whole hotel has. The pool area was by far our favourite place to spend a lazy afternoon, and those sun loungers were just as comfortable as the bed! We spent a day on the beach, and it was great to find that the hotel had it's own area with loungers and parasols provided (included as part of the resort fee charge). Some information about the beach facilities and where to find the beach/pool towels would have been helpful in the room, but this is just a small gripe - the receptionist was only too happy to guide us to the area providing a handy map and pointing us to the towel station beside the pool. One thing that I believe the hotel could really benefit from is extending the hours that food is served in the bistro. We had hoped to just grab a quick burger on our first night after a tiring day but were disappointed to find that the food service ended around 5:30/6pm. Even extending to 8pm would allow people tired from arriving on afternoon flights the option of a quick and easy meal. WiFi on site was generally great, although patchy on days when the hotel was busier perhaps due to a lot more usage, but not a major issue. Overall, I found it hard to pick fault in this clean, relaxed and friendly hotel - location was excellent with shops, bars and restaurants on Washington and Collins Ave a mere minute or two away, and I'd happily return here to while away another 5 nights. Thank you for a wonderful chill-out holiday!

Stayed here a couple of nights and impressed with this small hotel. Clean and comfortable and a great location only a short walk from the beach,Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue with plenty of shops and restaurants. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially in reception.

    • Resort Fee Scam

      Reviewed 24 September 2019

Before we travelled we had paid the resort fees with Tui our travel operator, when we arrived at the pestana they asked us to pay the resort fees, I explained and showed them our room voucher which stated resort fees were inclusive. The person on reception said that we still had to pay the resort fees as it was mandatory and could not understand that we had already paid them, They would not let us in the hotel until we paid them so I had no choice but pay them again. Next they tried to sell us breakfast at some ridiculous price for the next seven days we were staying which we refused. We eventually got to our room which seemed very nice until through the night we heard scratching in the air ducts which kept us awake. The next day I spoke to someone else about the resort fees and they said we made a mistake and we will refund them. After a couple of hours I checked my credit card and I was shocked to see they had not refunded them but taken them out again. When I confronted them they said that they had made a mistake and would refund it all which they did but because of the exchange rate at different times I was out of pocket with the fees and bank charges. We then spent a day at the beach then returned to the hotel to be told that the hotel was closing for fumigation and we had to go to another hotel remember the resort fees were for 7 days and they even tried to sell us breakfast for 7 days knowing fine well they were closing. When I asked if the fumigation was for rats the receptionist just smiled and said I can not tell you that information. To sum up I would avoid these money grabbers at all cost!

    • Welcome to Miami.....

      Reviewed 15 September 2019

We stayed here as a family of 3 for 2 nights prior to taking a cruise. A great, quiet location just a couple of blocks North of Lincoln Road and parallel to Collins Avenue, about 7 mins walk from South Beach. Yellow taxi cost around $40 from MIA. Easy check in, nice staff and good feel to reception. Breakfast is cheaper to buy at check in than on a daily basis so consider that. We breakfasted at Maxines just around the corner, on Collins which cost around $70 all in. The room was on the 1st floor in the reception building. 2 nice double beds, a decent size shower, coffee facilities and an empty fridge. We overlooked the garden to the South (nothing really to see, but who goes to South Beach to look at the hotel garden?) and never heard any undue noise. We used the pool in the early evening which was a welcome coll down from the heat of the day. Pool towels were provided free by the pool. Wifi in the room and the communal areas was free and the signal good. We would happily return here should we be back in the South Beach area.
