    • Must see but avoid peak Chinese holidays

Went there with family and different ages. Guided with a local professional Tourguide which helped use purchase tickets and guide us around the massive territories. Very crowded during Chinese October holidays even we came at the end. Visit the warriors os a highlight and so much history about the old capital of China. A must visit but defiantly over populated - which will not go away.

We visited on a tour in late August. We were told that the summer vacation period had just ended, and the crowds were about half the size of the week before. There were still an incredible amount of people. It was almost impossible to see the warriors from the front of building 1, where the main display is located, people were 10-12 deep. But as we walked around the sides it was possible to get to the railing and get a much better view, just not the perspective for the "perfect" photo. We got nice pictures from the sides. If we return we'll either go first thing when the museum opens or 90 minutes before it closes to try to avoid the crowds. But no matter what, don't miss this, absolutely unique in the world. Almost forgot - the farmer who originally discovered the site is still there, selling his book in the bookstore!

The terra-cotta warriors and horses are an amazing sight. They were on my bucket list and did not disappoint. The only negative were the overwhelming crowds, which made it difficult to truly enjoy the view. That said, I would not have missed them for anything. Maybe August is not the best time to tour China

A really great place to visit, my second time around - first being in 2006. To see the three pits and the museum allow about three hours. On our visit Pit No 3 (the smallest one) was closed. We didn't visit the tomb mounds, so can't comment on this aspect. TIP If you've seen the TV programmes and read about the Warriors, no need for a guide in my view. Pick up a map and brief guide at the information centre. TIP Don't buy souvenirs inside the site, instead buy outside. Marked prices will be cut towards 50% with a bit of haggling. TIP Travel from XI'an with a hotel arranged taxi, a 3:30 wait, and return taxi was about 550Yn (70, 85USD). Entry 120Yn per person.
