    • Quaint, Clean, and Quiet

On my way to Sapporo I stayed at Jokura. It was a great place to escape the busy-ness of the rest of Japan. The rooms and facilities were extremely clean and neat. The family that runs the place was extremely nice and welcoming. They knew some English and were very patient with us (we didn't know much Japanese). The location is also walking distance to various markets and sightseeing locations. The owner even took us to the train station the day we left.

    • What a gem of a guest house

This place is definitely a must stay, its more like going home than staying at a guest house, the hosts are just wonderful. We stayed for 3 nights in a japanese style room (futons on tatami mats) - very clean and comfortable. Downstairs is a quirky collection of knick knacks that the couple have collected, upstairs are where the bedrooms and communal bathroom facilities are as well as a small lounge common room with guest fridge. We ordered the Japanese breakfast - it was indeed a treat (you have to order the night before) and at the time it was 1000. There is also washing machine and dryer facilities (small extra cost). The bathroom facilities are spotlessly clean (as was the entire place). A tram stop is just down the road allowing you to get around most of Hakodate (just be aware that you get on the tram and pay as you get off) - the daily pass at 600 is the best value. There is plenty to see within walking distance nearby including the museum of Northern peoples, the fishing harbour the old foreign compounds and the cable car up to the top of Mt Hakodate. The weather was cold and foul while we were there, but the lady owner offered us umbrellas to aid our travels. The guest house was always warm and cosy, the showers were hot and the water pressure great. Not a lot of eating establishments nearby but the owners were able to point out some great places a short tram ride away. There is a supermarket and a 7-11 is not far away. I would recommend visiting the seafood market for great food and a great experience. We also visited an Onsen and the one the owners suggested was Yachigashira Onsen (which is the one they use) - pretty much all locals and very traditional, a great experience and its easy to get to by tram but as we were staying 3 nights they drove us there and ensured we were well armed with a basket of shampoo, soap and towels ( this place you have to bring all your own stuff or hire and buy there) - would highly recommend the experience. On leaving we were given a gift by the owners and driven to the main station which made everything very easy. All in all its cheap, very very clean, friendly warm and cosy and most of all welcoming. You get what you pay for and more. Pros Hosts make you feel right at home, comfortable and warm facilities, location is a quiet residential area, location to public transport and some sights. Cons If communal facilities are not your thing then this is not the place for you, the only thing we were slightly put off by was that you hear people moving about, we were next door to a snorer 1 night and our room was near the toilets and washing facilities which was slightly off putting in the middle of the night. Highly recommend this place

    • If I could give this place 6 stars I'd do it

What can I say about Jokura? Although it's a bit far from the main spots of Hakodate it's one of the best acommodations I've ever been in Japan. Close to Motomachi and relatively close to Mount Hakodate Ropeway. This acommodation is like a big house with private japanese style rooms and common toilets. What makes this place so great is the hospitality of the owner, once I arrived there he took us a picture of all of us and he waited until 6 PM to give us our picture and a pair of chopsticks with our names engraved there. Great souvenir. Plus, I requested him to call a taxi since I had to leave early next morning at 5 30 AM to pick a train and he told us he'd bring us there with his van for free. So great, thanks so much to the owner, I totally recommend it. No wonder is number 1 in Hakodate.

    • Amazing Hospitality & Cute Place

My boyfriend and I stayed at Pension Jokura for one night to kick off our roadtrip around Hokkaido. The woman who runs the place was SO nice and such a good host. I loved the way the place was decorated, and all the little miyazaki vibes. We had a western style room which was cozy yet pristine. The bathrooms are also incredible clean. I kind of wish we could've stayed longer and also tried some of the food. I also really appreciated the gifts that the host gave us at check-out and the photo of us. So kind! I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Hakodate.

    • Very comfortable, clean and friendly homestay

Everything is lovely about this guesthouse. We had a very comfortable Japanese style room with air conditioning (the weather was very hot for Hokkaido!). The room and shared facilities (shower room, sitting area with tea making) are spotless. The location is good, a short walk to the main tourist areas, and close to the tram, but in a neighbourhood that feels 'local'. Best of all, for the hosts Mr and Mrs Sato nothing is too much trouble to make your stay comfortable and memorable, they really make you feel 'at home'.
