Arriving late in the afternoon, we were warmly welcomed by our hosts and shown to our magnificent suite which was part of the original house built around 1590. We dined with our hosts. Pheasant off the estate was on the menu. A delightful experience. We shared many laughs and left feeling most privileged to have experienced this unique accomodation and the pleasant company of 2 fine people.

    • Such a wonderful experience

We stayed at Cardross Estate for two nights. The room was expansive and full of beautiful old furniture. Absolutely loved the bathroom. A perfect example of a Scottish Country House. Sir Archie and Lady Orr-Ewing were as gracious as any two people could be, as well as their son Alistaire, who now runs the estate part-time. Oh and the other rooms in the house...what can I say, it was like a snapshot out of time. We had drinks with the Orr-Ewings each night and chatted about their history and their links to Canada and Vancouver. My husband said he wished we could have stayed at Cardross the whole time we were in Scotland, which by the way would have been impossible. Oh and then the dogs....two Jack Russells and two black Labs. I had died and gone to heaven. Just the sweetest pups ever and they are so loved. Scrumpie; is hilarious and likes to cuddle up beside you. Oh and the guinea foul with there new little ones, and the chickens with the fluffy legs and beautiful feathers. When I think of the stay I sigh. Would love to go back and hope we will!! Thanks you Sir Archie and Lady Nicole, it was wonderful.

    • Delightful Hosts and the dogs came too

We stayed here with visiting American friends whilst on our way to the west coast of Scotland. We were initially greeted by the dogs, all friendly, but who via their barking informed our hosts that we had arrived. Sir Archie and Lady Nicola Orr-Ewing are welcoming and delightful hosts, their country house is fascinating, and a pleasing throw back to an earlier age. History abounds and the rooms are impressive but don't expect modern - Cardross doesn't do modern. Breakfast was both adequate and delicious, the grounds impressive and the Scottish countryside at its autumn best. The Orr-Ewings' son Alastair runs the estate on a part-time basis and between Sir A, Lady N, Son and Heir they will happily entertain you with a potted history of the Orr-Ewings past and present. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we know our American friends will dine out on their fascinating experience whilst staying at Cardross. Oh, and the dogs were there to ensure we were given a barking send-off.

    • A wonderful end to a Scottish vavcation

This is not your typical B&B - how often do find one that has it's own 4,500 acre private estate? The house has wonderful formal rooms with a lot of family history and antiques. For us, the location was a peaceful way to "wind down" after a vacation full of travel. Walking on the property was particularly enjoyable. Sir Archie and Lady Orr Ewing are charming hosts and did their utmost to make us feel comfortable. Our room (with the en-suite) was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of variety and we had a a very pleasant dinner one night with Sir Archie and Lady Orr Ewing. I would certainly recommend Cardross Estate for travelers wishing to get off the beaten track and experience staying in a country estate.

    • Unique Opportunity to Stay at an Authentic Scottish Country House

My husband and I recently stayed for one night at Cardross Estate. It is a shining example of a truly grand country home. We had the "en suite" room, which was elegantly furnished with beautiful decor - as was every other part of the house we saw. The windows looked out over a lovely pastoral setting with fields, flowers, and sheep. We walked around the estate before and after dinner, and loved all the flowers and wildlife. What a peaceful place! We had an excellent dinner with our hosts Nicola and Archie. We enjoyed both the food and conversation immensely. My husband fell in love with the blackcurrant pudding Nicola served for dessert. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, as well. We wished we could have stayed here longer. It was a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of the Scottish country life.
