    • Afternoon tea

      Reviewed 22 September 2019

Visited today for afternoon tea as a treat for our mums birthday. Lovely selection of cakes and sandwiches and pleasant surroundings. Can imagine would be lovely on a summers day when the doors and windows open but a little quiet and lacking in atmosphere in the room. One of our party was a coeliac and the selection was great, only thing to fault was that the bread was a little dry especially around the edges. The thing that let it down for us was on the service front. The gentleman that served us was pleasant enough but I felt definitely lacking in warmth and attentiveness. We were served tea quickly after being asked if we wanted tea or coffee and the choice of sandwiches explained. We just felt it would have been nice if someone came back around to ask if everything was ok and whether we needed anything, at no point did anyone do this. We had to ask someone to come over as we wanted a glass of Prosecco with our tea and then again later as we wanted a different tea and some more hot water. We only knew we could add Prosecco as we had seen it on the website, it was not offered while we were there and nothing on the table to suggest you could have any extras. I think perhaps we were unlucky as all the other reviews comment on the friendliness but this was definitely lacking today and sometimes this is just as important as the food and adds to the experience. There was no welcome or thank you for coming and definitely no general friendly conversation from the person who served us and we didnt really see anyone else and we saw ourselves out.

    • Our stay at Orestone Manor saved what would of been a terrible weekend!!

I booked Orestone manor after a terrible air b and b experience in Cornwall. We cut our weekend short in Cornwall due to the bad accommodation and decided to head to Torquay and book somewhere last minute. This place saved my partners birthday weekend from being a total disaster and I cannot have picked a better place it was fantastic from the second we arrived. Reception were so helpful and friendly, the food and service was next level and the rooms and views were absolutely stunning. The atmosphere was so relaxed and everything was thought about to ensure our stay was memorable. If you get the chance book the Garden Suite with hot tub you will not be disappointed. The hotel is also a good distance for visiting Torquay sea front if you then want to go back to a quieter location. We will be returning !!! Thank you

My wife and I stayed for a short break at Orestone Manor having first seen it mentioned in an offer in a national newspaper. We were unsure what to expect but were thoroughly delighted by our stay. We were looking for a smallish hotel with character, in a good location, with comfortable accommodation, a friendly staff and offering good food. This hotel met our requirements in all respects. To single out just a couple of features for special mention, the hotel is family run and this shows in the friendliness and helpfulness of every member of staff. The food exceeded our expectations, from freshly-cooked main dishes at breakfast to a good range of high quality dishes at dinner. Finally, our first floor room was extremely spacious (especially the bathroom) and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. We will definitely return.

We were very pleasantly surprised having tired of the usual restaurants in the area. It has a country house hotel feel with lovely views over the bay. The food was excellent. The menu is a set price which is very reasonable with supplements for some dishes. There's a good selection of dishes though just one or two veg/vegan, so not sure how they'd feel. The duck leg was cooked just perfect for me and the venison was also looked excellent. The wine list had a reasonable selection that should suit all tastes. Service was again excellent and all in all, we'll definitely go back.
