    • A bit of luxury in South Brisbane

      Reviewed 29 September 2019

We were only here for one night as we were seeing a show at QPAC and decided to stay nearby. The apartment building was easy to find but the reception desk wasn't immediately obvious. When you see the glass doors and the lifts, go in and reception is at the end of the lifts (you can't see it from the walk up). Check in was friendly and efficient. Anything you want to know about the area and where to go the property managers can help you. Security is excellent with proximity key to use in the lift to get to your floor as well as to the pool and BBQ area on the 17th floor. We were on the 14th floor looking directly across to the city. A magnificent view from our balcony that had table and chairs to be able to sit and enjoy the view. We loved the spacious apartment - two bedroom, each with access to a bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the shower hot. The apartment was fully self contained with full fridge and complementary tea, coffee and biscuits. We noted that the kitchen was well set up but as we were only here the one night we didn't get the full use of it. The apartment was also spotlessly clean. The location is exceptional as you have easy access to the shows, festivals, restaurants, and parkland of South Bank. You are also close to the train station and other public transport like the ferries so you can easily access the CBD if you need to. You can park for free underneath the building - a definite bonus. Overall we found the apartment to be perfect for us. We would have liked to stay longer and take advantage of the rooftop pool and BBQ area. We would definitely choose to stay here again.

    • A long weekend in Brisbane

      Reviewed 26 August 2019

When we booked the Opera Apartment we didnt realize how perfectly placed it was for a weekend in South Bank ... We definitely scored - with a quick easy walk to South Bank , Brisbane was at our feet. We caught the City Hopper , Jet Cat , rose Lime scooters around the botanical gardens , and ate delicious food at every meal .... the restaurants in the area are budget friendly and full of variety. The apartment was clean , neat and the beds so comfortable. Showers were very clean and good. And all the facilities from the washing machine , dish washer and tumble dryer were so easy to use ...

    • Beware Cigarette Odor in Apartment, Roaches and More Problems!

      Reviewed 10 August 2019

I considered both Meriton Suites and Opera Apartments, and regrettably selected Opera Apartments. I researched extensively before making my decision. Both places had great reviews, and although the Meriton Suites one bedroom units looked nicer, it seemed as though Opera Apartments had the edge in terms of location for myself and my 10 year old. We checked in after hours, and utilized their lockbox procedure to gain access to our apartment. Unfortunately, our assigned apartment had an odor of stale cigarette smoke that got worse the longer we sat in it. Since I am sensitive to cigarette smoke, I would not have been able to sleep in that apartment without feeling sick. That was the last thing I wanted to deal with after a 10.5 hour flight and very little sleep. I called the main number and was connected to the answering service. Sean arrived to assist us in 15 minutes. Sean only had one other option for us that night, so we accepted it. It still had the odor of stale cigarette smoke, but it was less noticeable than the first apartment. However, this second apartment had sheer, flimsy curtains which did not offer any privacy from the building that was directly in front of us. Also, the microwave oven did not work, and I spotted a COCKROACH in the apartment. The next morning, we were startled by housekeeping trying to open our door WITHOUT KNOCKING! Thank goodness we had the chain bolt fastened, or he would have been in our room with absolutely no warning! I went downstairs and requested a different apartment, citing the cockroach, sheer curtains and non-working microwave as reasons. I was told that management was aware of the sheer curtains and non-working microwave, and that there were lots of cockroaches in Australia. I was informed that they were sold out for the weekend, and had only one other apartment to offer me. and was told that if it was not acceptable, You can find somewhere else. I felt this was rather rude. Accommodations in the area were booked up that weekend, and I had booked my reservations months in advance, when there were many accommodation options at very favorable prices. Since I did not have many good options available, I decided to stay at Opera. I asked for compensation for the inconvenience, and was offered $15AUD discount per night which did not even add up to one full nights stay. The apartment I stayed in felt cramped, with an odd floor plan and too much furniture crammed into the living room. It did not have the same layout as the first two apartments. There was a table for four, but two of the seats were useless, as there was no space for a normal person or even a child to sit at. Also, the living room sofa had the unpleasant odor of smelly gym clothes. Based on my experience, I would not opt to stay here again, nor would I recommend it. Next time, I would stay at Meriton Suites in the CBD area, which was actually was quite lively and appeared to offer more dining options or I would stay somewhere else in South Bank.

    • Good location, lacking maintenance

      Reviewed 01 August 2019

We found the building's location to be very convenient. Corridor had a bad smell and so did some elevators. Some water leakage on the carpeted floor next to kitchen sink. Not enough towels given, nor changed during a stay of 4 day stay.
