    • Unusual concept but needs restoration..

      Reviewed 09 August 2019

Decameron seems to be the biggest resort all inclusive chain of the island. (dont know why the international ones dont have space there..) The major island and satellite ones are marvelous! Indeed the 7 (or 8??) tonalities of blue to green are real! But, again, about the hotel, should have stayed at the Decameron Isleno, better location (beach just in front, at the best spot) and seems to be newer or more aristocratic, if you know what I mean.. The Aquarium one has an interesting conception, mimicking the palafitas design with round towers facing the sea (better choose ones at the sea front or #16, the newest one). Do not expect great food and drinks!! Away of reasonable. Breakfast seems to be ok, to be fair. But one thing must be said: all the employees are attentive and looking happy the whole time. The natural sea pool is something and there is also a conventional one, in front of the tower 16. Every night, again by the pool at #16 (again..), different shows, kind of characteristic on these places. The night club was under (slow) restoration...

    • Relaxing Vacation - Amazing Views

      Reviewed 10 July 2019

The island was amazing. The views and water were beautiful, The town was fun with good food, clubs and duty-free shopping. This hotel was very close and we walked to town every day. Although the hotel does not have a beach, you can walk to the public beach and it was very enjoyable. The island is surrounded by a reef and many of the resorts (like this one) were built on the reef, thus no beach. The hotel does have a good pool with a swim-up pool bar. When not on the beach, we spent our time on the docks built around a roped off lagoon-like area of the ocean. It too had a nearby bar. The food was very good in the two buffet styles restaurants. The table service restaurants required early reservations that were a hassle for us and we honestly liked the food at the buffet restaurants better. El Mirador was our favorite and it was in our building. Our room was good. Being so close to the water and strong breeze, I would imagine that the maintenance schedule is pretty robust for this resort. Our beds were comfortable, the AC worked, and the TV was good. The hot water was a bit inconsistent at the beginning of the trip, but was repaired. There were some odd processes, such as renting a lock to use the safe, prepaying for specific hours of internet, and a check-in process that brought everyone to a large room at 3pm to receive 1 room key and the TV remote when your name was called, They also read from a hotel information brochure that was given to us at initial check in. It was in Spanish, so I did not understand any of it. I asked for a copy in English, but they indicated they had run out of the English version a few months ago. Upon reflection, this was a very nice trip and hotel. Although it was not at the level of some of the all inclusive resorts where I have stayed, most of the staff made up for it. They worked very hard and seemed proud of what they had to offer and meeting guest needs. I want to specifically mention Lucila. We met her when making dinner reservations and saw her at various places in the resort throughout our stay. She helped us (I do not speak Spanish except to order a beer) the entire time. She was definitely a star and enhanced our experience. She was outstanding. The views from our room (see attached photo) and other areas of the resort were amazing. The 2 guys who led the entertainment every day and night were two of the hardest working, talented individuals I have encountered at a resort like this. They literally gave out towels in the morning and were dancing and performing until late into the evening. Our favorite location was probably the outdoor lounge area on the dock. Every night they had what appeared to be local musicians playing reggae type music with incredible views all around you. My last comment is that not much English was spoken there. Key staff members (like Lucila), however, were available when needed. Also, we like to make friends when on vacation, I did not encounter any guests who spoke English. I am sure there were some there, I just did not run across any. Finally, if you go, make sure to get out and see the island (golf carts can be rented). It has a unique culture and history to go with the beautiful scenery. This was also a very economically friendly place. Tip: Avoid Jonny Key. Very crowded.

Dont waste your money in this hotel I been 1 nights I had 3 night to stay here, but I leave the hotel because, the people In the front desk was very discourteous terrible customer service, high price to be old building and old rooms, the bathrooms is dirty, the air condition dont work properly, TVs dont work, everything its bad except the view to the ocean.. so, food its terrible, the restaurant its to small, people with hungry got it wait making one line outside of the restaurant waiting for people eating inside.. in other words dont come to this hotel you have a lot options in the island, for Less price and better service...

    • Good place but not worth the paid

      Reviewed 05 May 2019

I went on last April week, arrived to the hotel by taxi from airport, is close, you can walk if you want. On the check in room they gave us a bracelet for using the hotel amenities, but the rooms are given by 3:00 pm as it says in the reservation. So, according to you arrival time you can get breakfasts or lunch, also drink something for the bar. The food int the buffet restaurants is ok, the same flavor everyday, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I even found better to pick something in the snack. If you want to reserve some place for the dinner you have to wake up 6:00 am, otherwise the queue is too long that probably you can find place only in the Thai restaurant. The food on the dinner restaurants are ok, not great, not perfect, but is something different from the daily food served in the buffet. They are very strict on the times for opening and close the places, that is something I didnt like, if you are paying an all inclusive place you want to eat and take advantage of everything there, but if you left the hotel for walking or the tour had a delay, they should give some tolerance for picking some food, come on everybody arrives starving, however if you arrive to the restaurants near to the closing time you have to deal with the bad attitude of some waiter/waitress also is very likely that you can not find many variety on the food. The shows were good. The animation staff wow were really great, they did their job, but many times it depends on the public enthusiasm for keeping the good environment during the show. The bar is good. They can serve you what you order according to their menu, but the drinks feels very watered, the beer is atlas and the drinks are local brands. The hotel is in a nice location, close to the center, the shops and the airport. Also, is close to the dock for the boat tours to the cays, can walk everywhere. You can find inside the hotel the natural pool, which is the sea in a calm space where you can swim and snorkel if you want. Also there is a big pool in the other side. There is a bar close to every pool, so you can order from there. The view from the rooms are great, you can wake up looking the sea and its beautiful color. The room is clean, AC works all day, can feel a little cold sometimes but then you get use to. The water from the piping is not drinkable. You can find a bottle of water there for drinking or order more to reception or the bar. Didnt have any inconvenient with stealing, but left my stuffs inside the luggage and locked everyday. During the stay some people from Multivacacio es will try to invite you to become a member for their program, is very annoying because they are very very persistent, they offer you somethings but you need to pay attention to the small letters. Anyway, I recommend that if you want to visit the island for knowing the island, you can stay in another hotel, a normal one, not all inclusive. If you want to rest, maybe can choose this one, but anyway, unless you have a party everyday with friends and eat a lot, you can feel the paid worths what you use. Inside the hotel you just can eat, drink, make some kayaks, and use the pools, the disco is being restructured, also watch the shows every night. So, think good what you need.

    • Perfect location to rest

      Reviewed 04 March 2019

Well this was our second time at the Aquarium (first was in 2015). It really has not changed much which is probably the only down side to the hotel. As mentioned in other comment, it is very clean, the bed are comfortable, but a little refresher to the rooms would be nice. But the location! wow can't get enough of the view. In addition the proximity to town is great. It is a 7 min walk to the public beach and the stores. The strong points in my opinion are: -Food: excellent choice at the buffet. The salad bar is very well garnished. In addition to the reservation already done at the a la carte restaurants, it is easy to get additional reservations. My favorite was the Asian. -The staff. The following is delicate, but I believe that should be said. The male staff is great, they love to talk and laugh with the clients (hi Andrew and Danys). The female staff if much more reserved (except for "honey Baby" she is always laughing) and don't exchange much with the tourists. In general they all are helpful. -The possibility of visiting other Decameron hotels. This is great when staying 2 weeks, since it is very quiet on the resort. -Cleanliness. They do a great job keeping everything clean. Downers: -Wifi. You can pay for it, but it does not work well. It make no sense that a hotel does not offer free wifi today. It is better to walk to town where the streets are free wifi. -Rocky Kay. Not much to see there. If you want a nice experience, take a tour to the island. It is much nicer. Don't get me wrong, if you want to visit a beach and take advantage of the all inclusive, Rocky cay is fine, but in my opinion go to the public beach and buy your beer at the store for 2$. Good to know: -Very little activities so if you are looking for a party, you are not at the right location, but if you want to rest...this is the spot. -If you are looking for good seafood, La Regata without a doubt, but you must reserve a day in advance.
