    • I was happy here for a week.

      Reviewed 24 January 2020

On a pretty street in the NW part of town, Casa Los Arquitos is a find. Essentially a private home with a B&B to one side, the gentlemanly host Juan is usually home, alert to what is happening and I always felt safe. Decorated in mainly white with cheerful colors, the place is uncomplicated, well-maintained, and unusually clean. All rooms are on ground floor except one which is upstairs and larger, with a couch and kitchen, the one I took since I would be there a week, very comfortable and quiet. I liked the breakfast, which was yoghurt, granola, juice, fruit, and coffee, with toast if wanted, plenty given the wonderful restaurants that you are going to want to try. The location of this B&B is convenient for restaurants, the Guzman cathedral, and ARIPO (good prices, well-edited, government run handicrafts). However, it is a bit far from the zocalo; my solution, walk as far as I could, then take a cab back (cheap and plentiful). Several blocks away is a charming square where you might find a wedding party on Saturday night, On the Alcala nearby on weekends is Cocosec, a little courtyard full of stall restaurants and handicrafts, really good and cheap food and a fun hippie-vibe.

    • How could you ask for more?

From our very late arrival to our early morning departure five nights later Juan could not have been nicer, more accommodating, a better advisor and just a good soul. Los Arquitos was a haven of welcoming tranquility having pounded the pavements of Oaxaca or traveling out to see the areas many sites. Juans recommendations were always spot on and the driver, Felix, that he arranged for us for two days was great. The house is beautiful with many artistic touches and lovely comfy beds. Being so welcomed in Juan and Patricias home added such a great layer to the many great layers of Oaxaca and I wouldnt stay anywhere else now when I go back.

    • Great small place (made grade by host!)

      Reviewed 25 March 2019

We spent a week here in March, 2019. We found it great. I note we booked the one large (and more expensive) room with the king sized bed, and I do not know about the other rooms. Our room was large and very comfortable, very suitable for a couple for week so as to not kill each other. It also had a small kitchen which we did not use, but there was a very useful refrigerator in it. The mattress was very kind to our backs. But the big attraction is the host, Juan. He is is warm, kind, friendly, helpful and all the other good things. He booked our taxi for trips out of town, recommended towns in the valley, etc etc. But more than that, he is a simply a warm person, the kind of person I would have as a friend. The casa is nice, situated on a courtyard so quiet. It is about 4 blocks from the Cathedral so in a quiet part of town. It is very pleasant to sit in the courtyard. I do note that if you want a large cooked breakfast, this is not the place. You get a simple breakfast of (fresh of course) juice, fruit, toast and coffee. Given all we ate at dinner in Oaxaca, great for us. It you are addicted to wifi this may not be the place for you. Wifi did not reach our room so we had to go downstairs. It took a day to get used to this, then we realized that this was a big feature, not a bug! But if you need high speed wifi this is not the place (much of this may be a general issue with Oaxaca). Again, after adjusting this turned out to be a good thing and we could plan the day in the morning in the courtyard. So one of our favorite B&B's

    • Beautiful! Welcoming hosts! Easy walking distance to center!

      Reviewed 12 November 2018

Juan and Patricia are wonderful, welcoming hosts. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. The courtyard where we had breakfast is gorgeous. Breakfast was simple, fresh, delicious. The location on a quiet street is perfect for easy walking access to and from the center of town. Juan has all sorts of tips about places to go and arranged a terrific guide for us. I plan to stay there again when I go back for another visit to Oaxaca, which is a magical place.

We have just returned from nine nights in Oaxaca staying in this perfectly located B&B. Continuous revelry for Dia de los Muertos was just down the street and into downtown so returning each afternoon and evening to this oasis was easy and welcome. Our hosts were kind and attentive and the room and patio, beautifully designed. Granola/yogurt breakfast is enough to get you out and onto the street each morning but not enough to fuel a morning of activity. A lovely stay. thank you
