An excellent hotel with magnificent views of the town in the valley and the harbour and on a clear day Mt Fuji. It was a joy to open the curtains in the morning and soak in the view. One I will never forget. The breakfast was great with a wide variety of dishes. Unfortunately we choose a French dish for our evening meal and it was not well cooked. Our fault we should have chosen something from the meal which represented the food of the area. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

    • Stunning hotel with stunning view

It was lovely to go up above the oppressive town of Shizuoka and escape into the hills. The Nippondaria hotel should be a spa hotel as it was so peaceful. The view is to die for - fabulous. The restaurant isn't quite as good as the hotel rooms and couldn't cope well for breakfast when the hotel was full. For dinner the menu is quite limited and the food is not always what you may think. Overall the experience was good and the view almost makes up for any small failings elsewhere.

    • Ultra modern hotel with a spectacular view

The hotel is secluded atop a hill and 30 min taxi ride from train station. The location provides a break from the city hustle and some much needed tranquility. The staff greeted me upon arrival and the English speaking front desk employee made check in efficient and easy. I arrived at night and after check in we enjoyed a night time drink at the top floor bar. Fantastic view of Shizuoka city and harbor lights. The hotel grounds were lite up in a tasteful manner. My room was modern and well laid out with an area for doing business, a small table for coffee. The bathroom was big and provisioned with soap, toiletries and various hair and shower products. Very comfortable bed. Room lighting was controlled next to the bed with English labels so I could control the on off for all the lights from the bed. A nice touch. My room was on the 4th floor and from the walk out balcony I had a spectacular view of the city lights. Morning revealed the fantastic view of the city, port and surrounding mountains through the wall the ceiling window. Fuji san dominates view. The morning was cloudy so I only saw bottom half of Fuji san but it was still impressive. As an American I appreciated that the room came with single serve drip coffee for my morning cup of joe. The hotel breakfast buffet has a wide selection of traditional Japanese dishes and local specialty items such as Shirasu, the tiny white fish. I eat Shirasu with rice, a little daicon radish and a splash of soy sauce. Delicious. After breakfast we strolled the pathway through the manicured lawn and grounds. We checked out of the hotel and headed to the Nippondaria zoo for the day. Nippondaria hotel was a great place to stay. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was perfect and the view memorable.

    • Great view and hospitality!

The superior room we stayed was great! It faces Mt. Fuji and has a bench in the balcony to enjoy the view. Unfortunately we couldnt see Mt. Fuji as it was foggy, but we did enjoy a beautiful night view instead. We liked the spacious beautiful garden in front of the hotel building and strolled there before dinner. We had dinner and breakfast at a restaurant, the terrace. Dinner was tasty and the service was very good. Breakfast is a buffet style and you can enjoy a wide variety of western and Japanese breakfast. We enjoyed omelettes a chef cooked in front of you. Their service was excellent and memorable! When I asked one of the staff members how to go to Nippondaira ropeway station, they kindly took us there by car and came back to pick us up at the station on the way back. Also, when dinner, they offered me a complimentary appetizer as it took a while to get ready an a la carte dish I ordered. As a whole, we had a very relaxing stay there and want to come back in the season when Mt. Fuji is covered with snow. We highly recommend this hotel for your retreat!

    • The perfect place to enjoy an off-the-beaten track weekend escape

Wanting to get away from the hussle and bustle of life in Tokyo, I decided to book a night at the Nippondaira Hotel at the recommendation of a friend. Just one hour on the bullet train from Tokyo Station to Shizuoka Station followed by a 35 minute journey on the shuttle bus, I was amazed at how I could be in a completely different world in just over an hour an a half. From the moment I walked through the door to the moment I checked out, I was treated to breathtaking views, relaxing modern ambience with a Japanese touch and five-star service by the hotels staff, many of whom spoke great English. The food and wine at the hotels restaurants was also one of the highlights. Even though I was unable to see Mt. Fuji this time due to the weather, I was still able to enjoy the hotels magestic garden and views of the cityscape and bay below from almost every spot in the hotel, including the rooms private balcony, onsite spa and Upper Lounge where I also got to sample a selection of the bars Nippondaira signature cocktails. Truly delicious! I also ventured out of teh hotel and visited the nearby Nippondaira Dream Terrace, which offers 360views of Mt Fuji and Suruga Bay, and took the ropeway to the Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine, which has been designated as a National Treasure. Both these places offered the opportunity to enjoy some of Japans most beautiful scenery without the crowds you often encounter at many tourist spots in and around Japans big cities. Although this trip was just one night, I will definately be back alone or with friends next time. It is the perfect spot to escape, unwind and recharge, or even to hunker down and get work done while enjoying quiet and peaceful surroundings.
