Hotel conveniently situated near main access roads to Rouen, but very close to the city centre. The hotel had convenient underground parking and comfortable but slightly dated rooms. The Bar Food was excellent.

Better signage (Turn here for Mercure!) would have helped eliminate an awful round of back roads. Could see the Ibis sign easily but not the Mercure. Dinner was excellent and bed was most comfortable.

Superb hotel, easy parking, walking distance to Rouen Centre. This is the first time we have stayed at this hotel. It was booked after a hectic 2 weeks of selling our house in France, travelling to Spain with furniture and also travelling back to the U.K. because my husbands mother was seriously ill. We arrived at the hotel at 19.00, very, very tired, only to find out that we had booked for 2020. devastated. Marisol who was at the reception was absolutely brilliant and spent a long time trying to sort it out with Hotels. Com. She was a star. The Management of the Mercure are so lucky to have such a professional and exceptional member of Staff. Thank you so much. From the reception to the restaurant and bar, the staff are so helpful and welcoming, they just couldnt help us enough. Well done, exceptional service.

    • Gloomy room but a dazzling breakfast

Our France 2019 trip rolled onto Rouen, our last destination with an overnight stay, in fact a two-night stay. This was Day 26 and 27 - just one more day of travelling to Caen and onto the ferry home. This hotel had a great location for us: being just on the edge of the city centre (therefore a bit quieter) and about 12 minutes brisk walk to the Catholic Church of Saint-Maclou which is close to the greatest concentration of restaurants and historical monuments. This hotel was relatively easy to find but if you approach from the South or West you will need to drive past the hotel and double back on the dual carriageway on the D6015 (the Avenue Aristide Briand). The hotel shares a building with the Ibis Hotel. The hotel has secured private parking in a three-level underground car-park (the joy of this will be discussed later). Parking costs 9 a day or part thereof. We paid 27 for our stay of about 45 hours which is 9 on arrival on day 1 (11 hours), 9 on day 2 (24 hours) and 9 on departure on day 3 (10 hours). Yes this hotel knows how to charge. Ours was a good-sized room with efficient air-conditioning, a safe, TV with remote, desk with lamp, chair, pouffe, bedside tables, wall lamps, telephone, kettle with tea and coffee and milk (no black tea though), pad and pencil etc. Plenty of power sockets, and good fast free Wi-Fi with an option to go superfast if you paid a fee. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were not great. The room was incredibly under-lit. When we entered or room there was no lighting in the short corridor that provides access to the main room, the bathroom, and also contains wardrobes, suitcase shelving and a place to unpack luggage. Some light can be garnished from the bathroom light but not nearly enough to identify what (especially light) clothing colours were. The main room had no main light: there were wall lights and a lamp on the desk, but even with all of these switched-on, it was still very gloomy. There was a glazed door leading to a closed balcony and when the curtain was drawn back there was sufficient light in the room during daylight hours. The bathroom featured a step-over-the-side-of-the-bath shower (not good even with the grab handles), a sink, and a mirror but not nearly enough light. A hairdryer, good towels and soaps were provided and as our battery toothbrushes had died we were given complimentary toothbrushes at reception. The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water. Good, tidy, clean and well maintained public areas, lifts to all floors, helpful staff all with good English. The reception staff deserve extra acknowledgement on how helpful they were. The stunning breakfast in tasteful Hornfluer restaurant was the best breakfast on this month-long trip. There was an amazing buffet of hot and cold dishes including delicious scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, sausages, cheese, pancakes, boiled eggs, hams and other cured meats, fruit, fruit juices, cereals, artisan breads, pastries, preserves and pickles. I may have missed a few more but I suspect you will have got the idea. Tea and coffee were good and made by a self-service machine; we just used this for hot water and used great English Breakfast Tea teabags to make a fine brew. It was difficult not to over-indulge and I did fail, Im afraid. We did use the bar a couple of times and on each occasion we had to ask the receptionist to notify the duty bar attendant of the arrival of customers in the bar. Thus we assume the bar is open but not staffed all of the time. Overall our stay was a good experience despite the gloomy room and the in-bath shower. I would doubt that this hotel would attain a 4 star rating in England and we have stayed in a few. There was just one other problem: with the car park. We had a roof box on the car (which we nick-named the loft). This made the car just over 2 metres high overall. Although at the entrance to the car park there was a height indicator (a chain-hung red-stripy barrier), which we cleared, we were still nervous of low-hanging pipework and lighting. We parked very close to the entrance on what was level -1 (there was an external ramp from the street level down to level -1). On exit we had to drive down to level -3 and then all the way up again on the other side of the car-park to level 0 - so that was 2 floors down and then 3 floors back up to street level. The ramps between levels were quite steep, and we had to take it slowly to ensure we didnt damage any lighting or pipework, or to our loft. Even then we did scrape the loft on one concrete beam, which was obviously a bit lower that the entrance height barrier. We only just cleared some pipework and I had to walk ahead of the car to keep watch as we slowly made our way out. So please be aware: this is not a great car-park if you have a roof box on your car or drive a SUV of over 2 metres.

Loved the hotel , we had a superior room , lots of space and a king-size bed ! Breakfast was nothing to write home about but ok . Parking was poor and we had to always walk into town which was a pain ! I couldnt find any modern hotels nearer ! WiFi works and the staff were friendly ! If you are going to see the gardens of Monet then visit this beautiful town and stay here ! The light show on the cathedral was fantastic!
