This is a modern, refined, comfortable and appealing boutique hotel that was an enjoyable place to stay and deserves many of the plaudits lavished upon it by other TA contributors. However, our experience revealed some shortcomings that tainted the excellence that those rhapsodic accolades had led us to expect. The good: in a town with plenty of eye-catching competition, this hotel is a delight to behold; a favourable first impression that was abetted by proficient and obliging reception and service staff. Our one-bedroom panorama suite (215) was extravagantly spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, stylishly finished & furnished and well-appointed. Almost everything expected was there and it mostly worked as expected. Both the bedroom and the spacious living room open onto an equally expansive, flower-bedecked balcony with a peerless view (weather permitting) up to the Matterhorn. The king bed was comfortable, the linens plush and there were enough pillows for each of us to find a favourite. Closet & storage space abound throughout the suite. The bathroom & separate toilet are roomy, tasteful and as well-equipped and functional as a Swiss Army knife. The kitchen would be adequate anything short of a feast although the absence of a microwave oven seemed odd given that there is a fair size convection oven that appeared never to have been used. The included Wifi worked well on all our devices. A breakfast buffet is included in the tariff. The hotel will provide transport from and to Zermatt Station if requested. The not so good: there is no air-conditioning in the hotel, which might be fine for the majority of the year when heating is the primary requirement but its somewhat less so in balmier conditions. So, if the suite gets too warm for comfort, opening the balcony doors is the only means of temperature control day and night. On arrival we discovered that both bedside lamps and one reading light in the suite were not working which we reported immediately. Undertakings were made but they were still not working when we departed a couple days later. The hotels website waxes lyrical about their breakfast buffet and egg accompaniments and the outcome is OK., but falls short of excellence especially if you arrive later when the buffet is very slow to be replenished.

A small group of us stayed 2 nights at the Matterhorn Lodge at the hind of over a week of hiking in the Alps. This place was a wonderful oasis just a 2 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of the shops and restaurants. From the moment we walked in we were astounded by the location, by the rooms and by the welcoming staff that greeted and treated us genuinely like guests in their home - felt like family. Ruth and Rafael were so helpful on transport into the "no car zone" and on check-in. Lea greeted us with a fantastic breakfast spread each morning and was simply delightful as she made us eggs to order and kept the coffee coming. And Anya (sp?) was at the bar each night to help with our nightcaps. We did not take advantage of the spa in the hotel, but I highly recommend this Lodge for your stay in Zermatt - you will not be disappointed.

Great place to stay in Zermatt. Realy nice rooms, a delicious breakfast and well located in the centre of Zermatt. We enjoyed only a short visit before leaving for Monta Rosa Tour. But we were warmly welcomed by Ruth, who was very helpfull. So we had a very pleasant stay in Zermatt. Next time a little bit longer !

The Matterhorn Lodge Hotel is a calm oasis, and, close to the centre of a very busy Zermatt. From the beautiful flower adorned front of the hotel we had the classic view of the Matterhorn close to the church...taking an aperitif or coffee. At night, you can see the late climbers descending with their head torches scanning the peaks edge. Breathtaking. The team were very welcoming and helpful from reservations to activity suggestions. Do note if arriving in the afternoon, the team take the typical Swiss lunch until 1430. You can leave your luggage in the boot room and have stroll around Zermatt to get your bearings. We would highly recommend this and will certainly return ourselves.

From the minute we walked into the hotel, we were given a genuine friendly welcome and that was with us throughout the time we stayed. The room was beautifully decorated and the shower room area was a suite of spaces! The shower was the best ever experienced especially after a long walk. Towels were of a high quality and not the size of a large flannel. Housekeeping was a high standard and everywhere we went was pristine, including the beautifully kept garden. The lodge was tastefully decorated with lots of interesting items to look at. If you need a super comfy bed and lots of wardrobe space this is the place for you! Breakfast was an excellent buffet and the eggs were freshly cooked to order. This is our 4th hotel stay in Zermatt and was by far the best we have stayed in. We didn't have a Matterhorn view this time, but next time we will make sure we have the view and a balcony! Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so memorable.
