    • Amazing Stay on the Ping River

      Reviewed 07 August 2019

We stayed one lovely week at the Marndadee Heritage near Chiang Mai. We stayed in both the colonial room and in the hay loft villas (very unique). This is a very relaxing place directly on the Ping in the country 20 minutes from the Old City. The architecture is traditional Lanna style and the whole place abounds with antiques from all over the world. The restaurant serves good food at reasonable (but more than you would pay in the Old City) prices. Service is excellent; the staff will do everything they can to make your stay a pleasant one. We loved it here. There is free shuttle service to and from the Old City several times a day. The Marndadee is close to Ban Tawai Woodcarving Village and is a good base for a visit to Doi Inthanon National Park. There is a nice pool and restaurant overlooking the PNG and the surrounding hills.

    • Relaxing stay

We stayed for the fist 2 nights of our Thailand honeymoon trip in the hope to relax and unwind from the excitement of the wedding and we were not disappointed! On arrival we were welcomed with an iced tea and snack and very friendly staff (the staff were great throughout) and taken to our villa. We had the rice barn villa which was great, very traditional. The downstairs area was a lovely place to relax with an awesome hammock (much time spent in it!). The only downside to the room was that there was no aircon in the bathroom so in 40C heat it got pretty warm. The setting of the hotel is beautiful, a real retreat amongst nature, especially at night when the place comes alive with different sounds of all the wildlife. The infinity pool was stunning overlooking the river and a perfect place for happy hour drinks as the sun set. It had a small covered jacuzzi section which also sprayed a cool mist which was very welcoming! We borrowed the bikes for a little explore which was great and the staff were helpful recommending where to go. The food was slightly average which could be looked at but overall a truly relaxing stay in a great place.

Take a deep breath and relax at this wonderfully peaceful retreat. I could not recommend it more highly for a no fuss getaway, and we hope to revisit in the future! My favourite thing was being completely surrounded by birdsong, butterflies and wildlife while we were there, and falling asleep to their natural symphony. I tend to get bitten a lot when I travel abroad so expected my fair share of mozzy bites, especially considering the location, but surprisingly I wasn't bitten once while staying here! I used just a touch of citronella spray in the evenings, and a citronella bracelet on my ankle. Close second to the environment has to be the staff- always smiling, and so polite and helpful! The front desk ladies speak perfect english and the rest of the staff have a very high level of understanding and even higher level of service. They are quick to respond to weather changes- there was a short rain shower while we were there- adapting all the seating and outdoor furniture before the rain even began, and are happy to answer any questions you may have (e.g. "What animal is it that makes this sound?") They arranged all our taxis for us, including a shuttle to the airport (free of charge) when we left. On one Thursday evening we rented bikes (also free, just 100baht deposit) and they gave us a map to help us get to the local market. On one morning we attended the 8am yoga class, which was easy to follow and given in both Thai and English. I wish we had attended more than once! The restaurant food is delicious (try the duck special, crispy pork, spring rolls, green curry...) and the breakfast has both a fresh buffet and items you can order, from bruscetta to pancakes. Oh, and they do room service, which includes french fries, spaghetti and burgers, as well as thai food! The pool is stunning. It overlooks the Ping river, and is made even more beautiful by the "yellow shower" trees surrounding it and the colours at sunset. Plus, the water contains natural minerals and makes your skin feel so soft when you get out. As for the rooms, they are crafted to perfection, and the pillows are SO comfortable! Possibly the best I have ever slept on. The shower is great too. Beneath the rooms is a sofa, table and chairs and a fabulous hammock, big enough for two people. We enjoyed playing cards here and reading in the evenings. They also have an on-site spa where my partner and I both had Thai massages during our stay. I had the foot reflexology, which also includes your lowers legs, and my partner had the head, neck, shoulders and back one- "Thai spot" I think it was called. Before every massage they wash your feet and give you clothes to change into, and at the end you get a back/neck/arms stretch and rub (even if you chose the foot massage!) The masseuses are very strong and will give your muscles a proper seeing to! If you're looking for a relaxing break, you can't go wrong staying here. Being only 30 mins from the airport and city, it is close enough to get to all the main attractions, but far enough to feel like you've escaped the rest of the world; it is perfect!
