    • Interesting site

I liked the trails and I love seeing all the ancient ruins in the area, but for me, it wasnt worth the trip. I should never have driven my new car out there. Take heed, the road is abysmal and you should think twice about driving all the way out there for a 20 minute viewing. And be aware, they close at 3:00. Otherwise, the ruins are impressive. Loved it!

We took the trip to Honanki with a Pink Jeep tour. If you go, prepare for a bumpy ride on a dirt road. You need an interagency or red rock pass for entrance, then a walk through the woods up to the ruin which are against a wall. The people who lived here knew how to build sturdy walls! There are some pictographs and petroglyphs which still give no clue about inhabitants.

I liked the fact that the trails were like real trails, not black top or other "city" materials. The area was so true to the history of the area. I understand everyone no matter what their walking capability would desire to see these treasures. However, that being done, the area loses some of its charm and ambiance.

If you enjoy learning about history and a doing a little bit of hiking, this is for you. We parked our car and took the short hike through the woods up to the actual ruins. We had a great time identifying pictographs and learning about how people lived. You can get up close enough to actually see the ancient fingerprints in the mud between the stones making up the shelters. We really enjoyed Honanki.

    • Be aware of the rough road and closing time.

This requires a long bumpy road. We had a Jeep so it wasn't a big deal but we saw a few people in regular vehicles. Not a good idea. The road is rough. Also they close the fence at the ruins at 3pm and they were pretty much kicking us out at 3pm and shutting the gate.
