    • Beware of hidden fees and service charges! Good location, large rooms with poor views

      I have stayed at a number of Loews properties and have generally enjoyed them. This was my first time staying at the Seattle property, and I was underwhelmed. I chose it because I wanted to use AmEx FHR and the only other options in Seattle were the Fairmount (undergoing reconstruction) and the Four Seasons (absurdly priced on my dates of travel). Here is what potential guests might want to know (starting with the bad, ending with the good): (1) This property does something egregious that many states are trying to make illegal. To trick customers into thinking their rates are actually lower than they are, they add on non-optional service fees. So the prices you see on line are not what you really end up paying. At the Loews Seattle they add a nightly Urban Resort Facilities Fee that supposedly covers things one might expect an upscale hotel to be providing anyway- they list the additional fee as covering things such as complimentary morning coffee in the lobby, a phone in the hotel room, turndown service, and two bottles of wateronly if requested. In addition, my bill from their restaurant stated that a 5% service fee is added to all of the checksnot tax, and not money for servers. Just basically saying yeah, all of our prices are just 5% higher than what is listed on the menu. I have attached a photo showing this charge. In my view, these kinds of tricks are unethical and at best unseemly. Until consumer protection laws are changed, the best thing we travelers can do is to write to the hotel and say I was planning to book a stay at your hotel and decided not to because of your hidden additional fees; if your costs are high, just price your rooms accordingly so I can clearly and easily assess what my stay will cost. (2) I purchased a room advertised on the hotel website as a city view room. When I arrived, I was given a complementary AmEx upgrade of one room category (from Deluxe to Superior), also city view. Attached to this review you can see my ugly view. The only part of the city visible from any aspect of my window was a construction site and air ventilation system. The construction is really close, so when the building is finished, there will be a view only into the next buildings windows. In sum, the views are terrible/non-existent and selling them as city view misrepresents what the buyer is receiving. (3) Service at the hotel did not live up to other Loews properties. One morning I ordered room service. My order arrived with no utensils. At 9am I called and asked to have my tray picked up. When I returned to my room at around 4pm, the tray was still there and my room had not yet been made up. I called their star service line from my room phone twice and the call was never answered. They did respond when I texted from my phone. That afternoon, I also noticed the hallways were lined with dirty room service trays that guests had left outside their doors- these had not been picked up all day long. But the stay wasnt terrible. Here are some nice things: (4) The room was very large. It was open feeling and spacious, with a nice sized desk work area, room for a sofa, and a bed in an adjoining area. The bathroom was also large. The room had good lighting and lots of areas for outlets and charging. (5) The bar area was very pleasant. I visited tice and a young bartender (I think his name was James) was really going out of his way to make all of the guests feel welcomed. He was just very charming and added a lot of warmth for all of the visitors, which I appreciated. Location of the property is good, fitness area small but not crowded with good essentials, rooms were quiet/good soundproofing.

      Enjoyed a three night stay here for business in January. Loews was ideal for my requirements and I will be sure to stay again. Thanks to the Expedia VIP program I received a room upgrade, delivering a beautiful vista across Puget Sound to the Olympic Mountains from the eleventh floor. The room was spacious and very well appointed. Spotlessly clean with nice toiletries, towels and bed linen. Decent selection of local beers in the minibar as well. Room service was efficient and high quality. Also really enjoyed Storyville coffee shop across the road for a quick caffeine fix and pastry in the morning. Cant beat the location for proximity to downtown Seattle attractions and the waterfront.... and my office :)

      I was here on business for just 1 night. Hotel was further away from the Pike street market place, but close to waterfront. Hotel is right by a steep hill walking up away from the water. Room was nice and clean. I didnt have much of a view at all -- but it was a very nice clean hotel. Nice bathroom and staff was kind. I would definitely stay here again.

      I stayed at Loew's for my birthday and I wasn't disappointed! The standard room was massive: I could literally do a cartwheel across the room. The room felt like a suite. Plenty of natural lighting, but the curtains were dark enough to black out the room at night. The bathroom was spacious and had a soaker tub with a view. (The only strange thing was the water spout, which was in the ceiling. That was a bit strange/gimmicky.) The spa service was unforgettable. The spa staff were friendly and extremely competent both in their service and social skills (they chatted, but knew when I wanted to relax and be silent). They found out it was my birthday and gave me a goodie bag to take home. The downsides: The location is convenient for daytime touristy activities, but parking is very expensive. Even if you don't valet your vehicle, it'll cost $30-40 per day to park in downtown Seattle (rather than in somewhere like Bellevue). For a special occasion, I recommend this property.

      I travel a lot. My experiences infor accommodations vary from hostels to Airbnb hotels..never below a 3 star. My next stay is Mandrin Oriental in Miami. I know this hotel well as I lived in the neighborhood for several years and often would go for happy hour breakfast or dinner. While in town this last time I saw a 122.00 deal so I went for it. I didn't know another 20 resort fee..not happy.. wouldn't allow me to watch Senate hearings..MSNBC..few people..ok not happy. Then my bill. What a mess..couldy explain a 73$ charge..said mistake and would drop off. Then another 45 and 128. Which in took me several calls why. Oh a mistake. Still waiting for it to drop off. This hotel is no where near the Loews in New York or New Orleans.
